WD SmartWare seeing the HD from a router?

I have one of the 2tb HD and love being able to store and backup my HDs there. The problem I run into is using WD Smarteare to see how much space is left on the HD when its plugged into my router. I have a Netgear WNDR3700 router and the latest update to WD Smartware. Any suggestions?

PS. I also can’t use the backup feature when its plugged into the router.

Which Western digital harddrive do you have? Can you state the model number please?

It is a My Book 2TB External Drive

Smartware will not work when the drive is connected to the router, it will work only when running from the usb of the computer where Smartware is installed. In regards of checking the drive capacity when connected to the WNDR3700

, you can login to the router go in the USB settings and check the capacity there, for more info refer to the user manual for your router.  If have the one for WNDR3700 v1  here.

Hope this helps.

We do have the My Book Live which will backup through Smartware over the network.  This drive is a NAS product.

Thanks for the help! I had a feeling about this, but I wanted to make sure I wasn’t doing something wrong. I knew about accessing the drive from the router to find out the capacity, but that is a great tip :)
