Folder view, please

I can see in this forum that i am not the only one that would like to see this feature implemented.

The Sansa is not and IPOD, so please make it possible to view and play folders without any regards to TAGs.

Some of my files dont even have TAGs cause they are over 10 years old.

So please, please, pretty please make folder and odinary file view for the Sansa clip

It’s not necessary, use Mp3tag to tag your files with artist name, and track number and it will seem like folder view!

Thanks for starting a new thread to request something that’s been requested a million times in a thousand other threads.

Do you understand that SanDisk does not “take requests” in this user forum?

While I wouldn’t object to having a folder view and would update if such an update was available, I’m a little confused by the logic of the requests. I would have thought firmware updates would be to fix bugs. People purchase a product with a set of features which they expect to work. Where is it written that they should also expect continual product enhancement updates. I haven’t noticed MS providing free updates to their office and other products.

Why have something that seems like folder view, when you can have folder view. Especially when you have the option to delete items, then correct path and filename should be available.

Nowhere is it specified before you buy this product that i dosnt support this, actually i had the impression that it would have this feature, and apparently so did many other people in this forum. An its just left out intentianally by devolpers since you need to have this to read trough the ID3 tags in the first place and map out gategories through several folders.

and microsoft updates their products with new features all the time, try booting the first version of windows XP VS. a SP3 edition. but i dont see how that even has anything to do with sandisk products. Sandisk can make their own decisions on how they want to support their community.

Yes im beating a dead horse here, but its still my opinion that having folder view would make the sansa clip a better product

We’ve had “religious wars” about this feature before.  Yeah, it would be nice, but from a marketing perspective, it’s not in high demand when you consider the overall MP3 player user audience.  iPods do fine without it, right?

Not sure where you get this “intentionally left out by developers” thing.  Developers don’t do things just to be nasty.  They have limitations - what their bosses tell them to do, how much code space they have, how much time they have.  It could be that they thought one more option on the menu would be confusing, which would add to their support load.  Consider how much threads are devoted to peoples’ confusion over MSC mode versus MTP mode.

Your argument would be more persuasive if Sandisk hadn’t provided folder navigation for the Fuze. I have both the Fuze and the Clip. I am enjoying my Fuze much more with  folder navigation.

Ah, can’t we do it in a wishlist thread?

… OK …

I’m not arguing against Sansa or anybody else adding additional feature via firmware updates and good for them and future sales if they do. As to my reference to MS updates, I think you’ll find these are added either to plug security holes or to make work that which initially didn’t or al least not very well. Like when I purchased my first Sansa - an M240, it was supposed to work with WMP. WMP didn’t handle Playlists correctly, Rhapsordy did. I believe the latest WMP is now fully functional but to tell the truth I haven’t even tried it.

As to the folder question, I believe tags would have been initially to be fully compatable with subscription services, ala ipod. I do agree now that many of us get our music from various sources it would be handy to give a folder view. I haven’t had a chance to see how this works with the fuze and how many levels it handles.
