The internet is full of complaints about WD drives not being visible and NOBODY wants to hear that they have to pay extortionate fees for data recovery when it is WD that hasn’t done the job properly in the first place by ensuring these drives work. WE want our data back, not a new blank drive that might fail anyway.
What are you selling us? these ARE NOT functioning electronic products that can be relied on and no end of people are losing important work files, family photos etc because someone is more interested in getting money out of customers than ensuring the product actually works.
Now WD, why has my elements drive dissapeared from “my computer” ? its not the cable, it hasn’t been dropped… now…what is the solution?
That is the reason must of us have a backup . Sadly not many understand what does it mean to have a backup.
Throwing all your files to the external drive and hope for the best is not a backup.
Please bare in mind that we the user’s just try to help getting the drive back to work…
if you have already tried everything ( another computer, dif cable, dif usb, dif adapter ) then replacing is the last resort.
Replacing the drive is as easy as it gets… now recovering your data is the hard part and that’s why we need to make sure to always keep backups of the data.
When these hard drives are being marketed for use in backup and it fails, what’s the point of using it as backup? Backup is supposed to be on a reliable and long lasting media, not one that goes kaput within 3 seconds after being plugged into the computer.
