I do have a few questions.
Background: Something went very wrong with my MacBook Pro so I had to start using my WD external drive to get on the internet. I eventually bought a new MBP b/c of this.
Questions:
-
My WD is partitioned and has three OS’s on it - Lion, Mt. Lion and Mavericks. I would like to keep Mavericks on it, add Sierra and delete the other two OS’s. I use SuperDuper. I’m not sure how to do the above. I’ve read the directions but I feel overwhelmed. I don’t like the word “erase”. I’m afraid I will not be able to use my computer again because of my internal HD problems.

My new MBP has an SSD drive. Can I use the same WD drive for this computer and the older one? WD has 1 T. minus what I have used. It has a lot of space left on it.
I may have more questions if the answers don’t seem clear to me.
Thanks for your help. Numbered step-by-step directions are the best for me if you don’t mind.
That’s some pretty advanced use cases right there… My suggestion would be to contact someone over at SuperDuper since they are going to know how their software works more than anyone here would.
Why are you keeping the OS on the My Book? Your Mac will perform much better booting off it’s internal SSD.
I didn’t think SuperDuper would be the people to contact. I thought WD would have the answer. Oh well.
I want to keep the OS on My Book because I am booted up externally to my old MBP with Mavericks b/c something is wrong with my computer and that’s the only way I can get on it. I will be using that computer as a backup should something go wrong with my new MBP.
I don’t plan on using the WD with my new MBP except as a backup and boot drive when and if needed. I plan on using the OS on the internal drive as I am this minute.
This IS a user-to-user forum, so with any luck another user with familiarity with the software will be able to help.
Ok, thank you. I hope someone will chime in soon.
