I just got my 2GB Sansa Clip today. When I hook it up (to either my laptop or desktop, both running XP SP2) I get “A problem occurred during hardware installation. Your new hardware might not work properly.” Nothing shows up under Windows Explorer and Device Manager has a yellow ! next to “USB Mass Storage Device.”
Also, I let it charge for 2 hours or so, but when I disconnect, it says “Low battery” and shuts off, and I can’t get it to turn back on.
Looking over this forum, I decided to try to load it in MSC mode by setting it to “HOLD” and pressing the center button while connecting to computer. This worked, Windows successfully installed the device and it popped up a window as drive H: and I could see the drive contents.
I’m fine with using it in MSC mode since I wont use WMP and will just drag and drop anyway, but it concerns me that it doesn’t want to work in the default mode.
How long does it take for an initial charge? I’ll let it charge overnight hooked up in MSC mode and see if it has a full charge tomorrow. I’ll also probably upgrade the firmware and see if that helps. What firmware version is most stable/working for most? Any other ideas why this might be happening?
Thanks for any help.
