Can someone explain me the following highlighted steps on updating the fuze’s firmware manually?

• Ensure your battery is > 50% full.
• Extract the .zip file into a folder on your computer. (Extract it into a new folder by right cicking and new folder naming it anything?)
• Once extracted, drag the file to the root directory of your Sansa Fuze.(The directory where all the main files are located?eg:MUSIC,VIDEO,etc:?)
• Disconnect the Sansa Fuze and let it begin the firmware update.(Disconnect the fuze without using the safely remove hardware option in Windows?)

• Once it finally finishes doing its update, it will turn itself off.
• Turn the Fuze on Select your language and region preference
• Once its back to the main menu, head to “Settings” > “System Settings” > “Info”, and verify the “Version” is now 01.02.26"x".

Can someone explain me the highlighted phrases clearly cause im not that much of a techno freak.

Thanks,

SR

A .zip is a compressed file.  There are many programs out there that can handle these compressed file.  You just need to extract the .bin file from the .zip.  You can put it anywhere on your computer, that’s not important.  You just need to extract the file from within the .zip one.  That’s the important thing.

You can just double click on the .zip file.  This should open it, probably in what will appear to be a regular window.  You can then just copy the file and paste it somewhere else on your computer (like your desktop).

Yes.  Just take the file from before and put it in the Fuze’s root directory.  This is where allt he main files are located.

Always use Safely Remove Hardware when in MSC mode.  There’s no reason why you’d skip that step.  Disconnect the Fuze like you normally would…

The root directory is the driveletter itself.  The root directory for the Sansa is the first of the two drives that appear in Computer or My Computer when you connect in MSC mode.  Not a subfolder like Music or Videos. Depending on what other drives are in your computer, it could be D:, E:, F:, etc.

(In other words, the root directory for your computer is C:.)

Many thanks for the great replies,

Allright i downloaded the firmware onto my computer and yes it is a zip file that i have to extract using some software.Im using Winrar for extracting. When i open the zip file there are two items,a folder named “…” and a file named “fuzeA.bin”.

My question is what should i extract? Both or only the .bin file?

Thanks,

SR

fuzeA.bin is what you need to drag and drop into your root directory.

Only the fuzeA.bin.

If I recall correctly, the “Folder” called “…” isn’t really a folder.  If you double click on it, it will bring you back to the previous folder.  (i.e. if you are in a folder called C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader, hitting the “…” will bring you to the Adobe folder.  Hitting it again will bring you up to the Program Files folder.  Etc)
