• Ensure your battery is > 50% full.
• Extract the .zip file into a folder on your computer.
• Once extracted, drag the file to the root directory of your Sansa Fuze.
• Disconnect the Sansa Fuze and let it begin the firmware update.
• Once it finally finishes doing its update, it will turn itself off.
• Turn the Fuze on Select your language and region preference
• Once its back to the main menu, head to “Settings” > “System Settings” > “Info”, and verify the “Version” is now 01.01.22"x".
Can someone please explain me the underlined and reddened lines.
Does the battery have to be exactly half full?
What if i do it with a full battery?
According to what i understand from this is that you have to manually update the firmware on the fuze.Whats the use of the sansa firmware updater?Correct me if im wrong.

That is your choice. Many people, myself included, have had issues with the updater and choose to update the firmware manually.

‘>’ means ‘more than’.
A zip file is a compressed file that contains other files. You need to extract the files and put them in an emty directory on your PC. Windows XP understands how to open zip files, but an application like 7Zip works more reliably and faster.
Mount the Fuze in MSC mode as a removable drive, and copy the file you extracted from the zip into the top directory of the Fuze.
If you don’t already know how to handle zip files, and mount your Fuze in MSC mode, and what a root folder is, you are probably better off using the Sansa Firmware Update to do it all automatically. The manual process is really only for a fall back, or if you are trying to do it on a non-Windows machine.

Why does the battery have to be 50% full when you update the firmware.
I cant say this for sure but I think its because of the extra strain on the battery to process everything when you do an upgrade
