Will My Passport work over USB-C adapter on Macbook?

I have a Macbook with only a USB-c port. I have a QacQoc dongle to give me a USB port. When I try to connect my 1 TB My Passport for Mac, my Macbook will not recognize the drive. The drive works on a different Mac with a USB port, so the problem is not the drive.

Any solutions for getting my Macbook to recognize the drive?

I have never tried using adapters since they are not supported. Lets see if another user has tried this before and can share some experience with us.
