WD does not back up

Hi everyone
My WD drive does not back up and after I installed an update it wont even open. There is a message that appears very briefly but it disappears so quickly I can’t even read it.
This is an older drive (approx 2 years old) but it should work and I don’t know what will happen if I uninstall the software and how to install it again. My late husband used to take care of all such things and I am a bit lost here. Can somebody help me, please?

Hello, What software are you using? I guess that is the WD Smartware, if you provide me with the drive model number, I will be able to tell you where to download the latest version of the software.

  Thanks a lot for your reply and offer to help.

  The software is the WD Smartware and the drive is a My Book
  Essential WD (that's what is printed on the front where the plugs
  are). here are some labels on the side as well but I believe my
  husband may have put those on as they sound a lot like the
  information of his netbook (Aspire One 722).

Hi, you can download the Smartware from the link below. Uninstall the Smartware from your computer and download and re-install it again.
