I have TWO MyBook(s) Pro of 1TB (with 2 disks RAIDed), exactly the same editions.
On one of the two, three days ago, trying to find a power adaptor i probably did something and it stopped powering up.
I tried to find answers online but could not…
Today i had an epiphany!
What i did was REMOVE the disks from the WORKING MyBook and put in the 2 disks from the non-working one, so i could back-up its valuable contents. And although it works fine with the two disks i bought it, putting in the 2 disks from the other box, it STILL DOES NOT POWER UP!!! Replacing and using again its own disks, it works…
WHAT DOES THAT TELL ME? What does it mean??
Is it possible the (two other) disks prevent the MyBook to power up?
What has probably happened is that you have burned up the 12V TVS diode on each drive. This diode sacrifices itself in the presence of an overvoltage, thereby protecting the rest of the electronics. If you can upload detailed photos of the component sides of your boards, then one of us will be able to identify the component for you. The quick fix is to remove the shorted diode, but you will have to be careful because you will no longer have any overvoltage protection.
There is a very good chance that removing the shorted diode will restore the drive to working order. If you upload a photo of the component side of the damaged board, one of us will guide you toward a simple no-cost DIY repair.
