Uninstalled WD Drive Utilities and My Book disappeared

Oddest thing—I uninstalled WD Drive Utilities (because I was having crashes and wanted to get rid of any unneeded processes), and one of my two matching 4TB WD My Book 1230 USB drives disappeared. It’s visible under USB devices but not Storage Devices in System Report and wouldn’t mount or even appear in MacOS Disk Utility.

I didn’t correlate it with uninstalling the WD Drive Utilities, since only one drive disappeared and not the other—and they’re identical (Product ID 0x1230, Version 10.65). I downloaded and installed the latest version of WD Drive Utilities on my Mac and the missing drive still wouldn’t appear in Disk Utility or mount, but it passed the Quick Test and failed the Complete Test.

The drive was backed up to the cloud via Backblaze, and I was just about to order the backup shipped to me on a USB drive for $189 (refundable later) and buy a new disk when I decided to try it on my MacBook… voila!

Anyhow, posting here in case anyone thinks their drive suddenly crapped out—double-check that it’s not an issue with the WD Drive Utilities!
