Unable to click Backup or Retrieve tabs in WD Smartware

I am using a My Book Essential USB 3.0 external drive.  After a recommended firmware AND software update I am no longer able to click either of these two tabs - they are dim.  However I have confirmed that the drive is recognized by Windows 7 and is also successfully backing up my data, yet I cannot access these two tabs.  I have tried power cycling the drive yet both of these tabs are still dim.

From the Home tab click on the my book icon to make the backup/retrieve tabs accessible.

Even I have the same problem for my Passport Essential HDD. But in my case the device Icon itself is not visible, the drive is listed only in the drop down of the drives.

I am using the WD Smartwave Version 1.6.2 updated from 1.5.4.

I have the same problem. The icon that usually allows you to select which drive to backup to is not there. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
