Just got my Fuze 4 GB, and updated the firmware to 2.03.33A. It’s paired with a Windows 7 computer, running Windows Media Player 12.0.7600.16415
If I manually delete a file from the Fuze, is there a way for it to automatically delete the file from the Windows computer during synchronization? When I tried doing so, WMP simply copied the file back onto the Fuze, which is not what I want to happen.
TIA
That’s what happens when you ‘sync’. You’re telling WMP you want it to make the library on your player the same as what is on your computer, not the other way around. If you delete a file on your player, next time you connect to yor computer, it will re-copy that missing files back again. That’s the way it’s supposed to work.
By the same token, if you decide to delete files on your computer, say to free up hard drive space because you already have those same files on your player, when you connect WMP will delete the files from your player because they are no longer on your computer’s hard drive.
This is the #1 reason I think sync stinks. I prefer to manage my own music library, thank you very much. I don’t need a flawed piece of software second-guessiing what it thinks I want.

Your point is taken about the definition of “synchronization” – but it’s not universal across all technologies. I am used to a completely different environment where synchronization is two-way by definition. Moving from one environment to the other can introduce confusion. At least I understand now what the ground-rules are form WMP.
Thanks for the info.
Yes, you can peacefully coexist with Microsoft’s veritable Frankenstein , Windows Media Player.
Connnect your trusty Sansa and select the Sync tab. You can then look over the sync list (results). See the listing of files transferred to the device? With the Sansa connected, you can delete files from the library (PC) or the connected device, and WiMP will remember which end of pair keeps the file.
This is a little different from the days of HotSync and a PDA, where you had a choice of having the PC or the portable device as the master. With WiMP, as long as you make your deletions with them paired, successive sync sessions shouldn’t zap your files.
If the music is deleted separate from WiMP (as in using Windows Explorer), it may behave a bit differently.
I have a whole gaggle of Sansas paired with WiMP on three computers, and thankfully, never have had phantom deletions of files. Now, WiMP has killed itself on numerous occasions, requiring a rebuild of the DRM cache and also the database (the rebuild is a sight to behold, taking a little while, and can be interesting to watch).
I still like the WiMP11 interface better than 12 (Windows 7), since it’s more comfortable to work with. I’m still tweaking '12 in hopes of eventually mastering it.
