Should I give up on Bestbuy and buy my Clip+ online?

Its been 3 days since the supposed release of the Clip+ to normal retailers and there’s still absolutely no sign that the Clip+ even exists anywhere besides Bestbuy. Even so, when i asked if the bestbuy here in Kohler, Wisconsin had one, they had no clue what it even was. I’m assuming if the Bestbuy here ever gets the clip+, they’ll only supply 4gb since thats all they have online. Thats even worse since half of the reason the Clip+ came out in the first place was to boast its massive 8gb of capacity (for its size). Do you think i should give up on the thought of Bestbuy ever getting an 8gig model? The only reason I ask is because I didn’t want to pay more than retail price and then wait for shipping, but if I have to in order to get an 8gb model, then I will.

This brings me to part 2 of my question… Lets say i order online and decide 15 extra dollars isn’t really that bad for next day shipping. Is it worth it? and if anyone has ever ordered something with next day shipping, How soon did you really get yours (amount of days and the time of day (just curious))…

Don’t agonize. Buy it on Amazon. Have patience. Don’t pay extra for fast shipping.

I order everything online, except for normal groceries and I’ve found that next day shipping is not a very good deal if you place the order late in the week, as many shippers will only deliver Monday thru Friday.

If you order on a normal weekday, each website usually clearly states when the parcel should arrive.  Usually it works, but sometmes there are delays, even when you pay extra for fast shipping.

Personally, I don’t use the premium shipping options very often, because with my luck; if there is a possibility of a problem, there usually is.

With that said, I got excellent service out of the Sansa store…  From the instant I ordered it online to my doorstep was 2 days.  Of course, there won’t be a discount on the item there.

Some of the discount retailers do an excellent job in getting you the merchandise quickly and some are mediocre.

I have great luck with Amazon when I use regular shipping, but not so great when the “free shipping” is selected.  Others here have had great luck with the free shipping option.

Good luck with whatever method you decide…

I actually have experience the same problem.  I went to 3 different Best Buy and none of them had the player (8 gb one)  and knew anything about it.  So I finally gave up and order mine from amazon.com on Monday of this week.   Not only did I get it for cheaper than what Best Buy would of sold it as I also didn’t pay tax nor shipping.  And today (4 days later), I got my 8 gb clip+ in the mail from Amazon.  Good luck!

Thanks guys… I think I’ll go with ordering from sandisk themselves since I don’t exactly have an amazon account and the shipping seems quickest from there even though it costs six dollars. Now that I know from aznawm that Best Buy is just wasting my time. Thanks again.

I don’t know if this is accurate information, but I heard that “Best Buy” isn’t going to stock the 8 GB model; at least not in all markets anyway.  So, ordering it may be your only option, if that’s the size you want.

That’s what my local BB, which stocks the 4gb Clip+, told me 2-1/2 weeks ago:  they don’t currently sell the 8gb Clip+ and there is no info. as to plans to do so in the future.  But, as we all know, what one hears from sales specialists at BB can vary in terms of basis, and sales agents may also be low down in the info. chain (as well as, plans can change over time).

True…

The last time I looked at their website, I only saw the 4 GB models listed.

Shades of the original Clip, with few places stocking the 8gb?

Personally, I’d like a 128gb Clip+ …   My high capacity player, an iRiver iHP-140 with a replaced 60gb drive, is full and I need something else–the only high-capacity DAP out there seems to be the fruit company’s high capacity player.  Sigh.   I don’t want to be forced to use iTunes!

;(

What happened to competition and why do high-capacity players seem to continue to be ignored by the manufacturers, and put in a second place?

I have both (actually my wife) a Zune 120 and an Archos 5 250 GB for high capacity players.  Both have performed well for us.  Archos is still actively marketing their hard drive based players calling their latest incarnation the Archos 5 IMT (internet media tablet).

Until flash memory becomes ridiculously cheap, the large capacity players are the best for our very large music collection.

Welcome.

Yep, the Zune is now dead, I guess.  I like Archos but really want a portable player that I can carry around, and the Archos seems to be a more stationary type.  Was considering getting an earlier fruit-company version and Rockboxing it, but that just feels kind of silly to me, not getting the latest version.  Sigh!  I just need a replacement a couple of years early; with 64gb solid state players out this Fall (at least from the fruit company), they could double in a couple of years.

I can’t give you a full report yet, but I just ordered a Cowon D2+, with 16 GB onboard and an SDHC card slot.  With the 16 GB internal and a couple 32 GB SDHC cards in hand, it will have a nice capacity for a small unit.

And the battery life is the stuff of legend!

Reading on the main site, it said that the new clip won’t be available in canada until december. FFS!

And even worse, amazon.ca doesn’t even have it. Infact, amazon.ca barely has any **bleep** selection.

With a Best Buy 10 minutes away from me here in the States, maybe I should start a Clip+ sales service for our friends up North in Canada?!
