Hey guys Please help I jusdt bought the connect and have no wifi, i run Xp windows and cannot even download the sansa updater? I have read through a bunch of the forum and cannot find anything helpful or have tried the recovery tool and a few others but nothing woks I cannot even get my music videos onto it. PLEASE HELP thank you
yahoo discontinued the music service that was compatible with the connect. the latest firmware for the connect removes wifi for this reason. the connect has been discontinued for quite sometime because of this. if you purchased this for wifi i suggest you return it to the place of purchase
Well, both of you guys have missed the recent posts in this forum which discuss how to restore the WiFi services, including THE LAST TWO threads.
To restore WiFi, follow the instructions in this thread:
http://forums.sandisk.com/sansa/board/message?board.id=connect&thread.id=2515
drlucky is half-right, in his defense. Yahoo discontinued their “Unlimited” service, which allowed you to purchase and download individual tracks for permanent use.
Edit: I don’t know why it posted in 12-point type like that…

True. Sorry if I came across as harsh, I didn’t mean to. Lousy day at work … :manmad:
But just in case the OP didn’t know … you can still stream Launchcast stations and view your Flickr photos, after restoring the WiFi functionality.
Video support was added in an intermediate firmware release. If you install the firmware images mentioned in the thread describing how to restore WiFi, you’ll also have video support.

Seriously guys I agree with you and did read throught posts about this but nothing made sense to me. I have tried the fixit software and otherr ideas but it seems nothing works. Promised planet if you are willing to help me sir I would be willing to ship you a little bit of cash on paypal. I really want this to work so i can play my music videos right through this onto my Avic cd player and watch them through my tv in my car Thank you for your time all of you.
Sansaconnectpro;
First thing, the Sansa Connect doesn’t have any video out capability, so even if you get it to display videos, you’re not going to be able to direct a video signal out of the Connect and onto another device.
Second, you don’t need the WiFi capabilities to display videos on the Connect. If you’re not interested in the WiFi capabilities, you can just install and use the current Recovery Tool from http://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/863.
If you do want the WiFi features, you should follow the steps outlined in the thread I previously mentioned:
1) Make sure you have the Sansa Connect Recovery Tool installed. If not, install it from
http://mp3support.sandisk.com/tools/DeviceRecoverySetup.exe
2) Follow steps 2 and 3 in this document: http://mp3support.sandisk.com/tools/connect-recovery-instructions.pdf
3) Verify that your Sansa Connect is displaying “Recovery Needed”. If it isn’t, you didn’t follow the previous step correctly.
4) Download the zip file containing the WiFi firmware ( also known as “recovery images” ) from http://www.megaupload.com/?d=UNLDGZ1N
5) Open up the zip file, locate the following files, and extract them to your disk directory “C:\Program Files\SanDisk\Sansa Connect Device Recovery\cmdline”:
- everest_initrd_ext_prod_1.1.1.50239.srr.e
- everest_vmlinux_ext_prod_1.1.1.50239.srr.e
- yeverest_zap_ota_rel_1.1.2.65799.tar.gz.e
- yeverest_zap_ota_rel_ext_prod_1.1.2.65799.sig
6) Connect your Sansa to USB.
7) Open up a command prompt window (Start->Run->cmd)
8) Type in, or copy and paste, the following lines into the command prompt window, one at a time. Note that you can paste into a command prompt window by right clicking in the window and selecting “Paste”.
- c:
- cd “\Program Files\SanDisk\Sansa Connect Device Recovery\cmdline”
- zsi_fw.exe -w everest_vmlinux_ext_prod_1.1.1.50239.srr.e everest_initrd_ext_prod_1.1.1.50239.srr.e
- zaprecover.exe -t 600000 -f yeverest_zap_ota_rel_1.1.2.65799.tar.gz.e yeverest_zap_ota_rel_ext_prod_1.1.2.65799.sig
9) Wait for the recovery to finish; at the end your Connect will reboot. If Windows displays its New Hardware wizard during this process, just cancel the wizard.
If you have any problems with any of the above steps, stop, and post the exact error message you get to this thread.

Hey PromisedPlanet,
I was following your instrux to enable the wifi on the Connect and hit a wall when the CMD prompt failed to recognize the following: cd “\Program Files\SanDisk\Sansa Connect Device Recovery\cmdline”
Any help? Thanks…

What error did you get? That directory should exist if you installed the Recovery Tool. If it doesn’t, do you have the directory “C:\Program Files\SanDisk” on your computer, and if so, what directory do you have under that?
PromisedPlanet you are pretty much the MAN. The only thing is I cannot get the Sansa Updater to work it just says searching for updates for a long time and does nothing. Is this right? I was also wondering you said it does not send a video signal out of the connect, how positive are you on this, because I just bought a cable that says it will, but seeing what you have already done for me I would trust you over anyone else. You seem to know your way around this Sansa connect. THank you again for helping me get my wireless radio, it works great and there are so many stations its crazy. Tim Provo

The Sansa Updater doesn’t work with the Sansa Connect, it works with other Sansa models. The tool used with the Sansa Connect is the Sansa Connect Recovery Tool. If you already have the WiFi functions working, though, you should NOT run the Recovery Tool, otherwise it may remove the WiFi functions.
What cable do you have? The only Sansa model that I’m aware of with video out capability is the Sansa View.
I bought a set of charging cables and a sansa connect audi video output cable.I just have a pioneer Avic and the navigation works well only with the cd in at all times so I figured I could load videos onto the connect and play them through it onto my avic. These are cables made specifially for the Connect so this is why I though I would ask you . How do I get videos on it then? I will not run the reapir software then…personally thanks again for your help Promised planet

Do you have a model number for that video output cable? As I said before, I don’t believe that the Sansa Connect has video out capability.
To get a video on the player, you just connect the player to your computer via USB, and then copy the video file to the “My Computer\Sansa Connect\Internal Memory\Video” directory. The Sansa Connect will play videos in MP4 format, I don’t know about other formats. If you have videos in other formats, you should be able to use a tool called “Any Video Converter” to convert to MP4 ( or “MPEG-4” ).

Hey PromisedPlanet,
Sorry for the lag. New baby.
I follow the steps, plug in the Connect when it says “Recovery Needed”, get a Windows “Recovery Tool” popup (which I minimize), before I copy and paste “zsi_fw.exe -w everest_vmlinux_ext_prod_1.1.1.50239.srr.e everest_initrd_ext_prod_1.1.1.50239.srr.e” into the cmd prompt
and it says “it is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file”
I’m running XP SP2. Any suggestions?
Hey Daddedeux, congrats on the new baby.
In your last post you said the error occurred on the line:
cd “\Program Files\SanDisk\Sansa Connect Device Recovery\cmdline”
Are you now saying that this command worked, and so you went on with the procedure?
In the command prompt window, type DIR. (without the period). Tell me what you see.
If you don’t see the file zsi_fw.exe, you are either in the wrong directory (which would be the case if the “cd” command didn’t work), or the zsi_fw.exe is located somewhere else on your system.
Thanks on the congrats.
Yeah, sorry. I think I’ve moved the proper files to the proper locations since my OP. So when I type in DIR, I get the following Efiles (condensed):
everest_initrd…
everest_vmlinux…
yeverest_zap…
yeverest_zap…
Am I supposed to have something else in there? Thanks again for the help.
EDIT: I found the ZSI.exe files in a different folder after running a search. Just not sure what I need to transfer since I got 19 results after running the search.

The files you listed should be in C:\Program Files\SanDisk\Sansa Connect Device Recovery\cmdline, which should also include zaprecover.exe and zsi_fw.exe.
When you did the DIR, what did the line say that starts with “Directory of” ?
It said “C:\Program Files\SanDisk\Sansa Connect Device Recovery\cmdline”. I’m not sure why zaprecover.exe and zsi_fw.exe is somewhere else.

Yep, I’m not sure either. You’ll need to find them and do the necessary copying so that all six files are in the same directory.
it does not seem to recognize my sansa when it opens the usb im running vista idk wat sp plz help?
