Sansa Connect 4GB Wi-Fi

The Connect only operates in MTP mode, not MSC (removable disk, assigned a drive letter) mode.

You can copy an entire folder’s worth of music onto the microSD while it is in the player, or into the flash memory, but the Connect won’t present that folder name to you.  Music on your Connect is displayed to you with menus that allow you to access your music by Artist, Album, Genre and Playlists.  Songs are sorted by track number + song name with albums, and albums are sorted alphabetically within artists.

Yes, you can create playlists based on your folders, and sync them to the Connect.  There are several tools available to do that.  I’ve never used any of them, but I know they’re out there.  Note that playlists can’t be nested within playlists, though.

Yes, the Connect has a random mode, and will play songs randomly within a playlist.

I don’t have any Kingston microSD cards, so can’t speak to how well they work in the Connect.

You must not have Googled for dimensions for these two players, both are easily available:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&as_q=dimensions&as_epq=sansa+connect

I’m not sure where you are located, but in the U.S. you can easily buy a Sansa Connect for around $35, sometimes lower.

The Fuze is smaller than the Connect, and has much better battery lifetime.

The Fuze has an FM radio receiver, the Connect does not.

The Fuze offers MSC mode and folder-based display, the Connect does not.

The Connect is a discontinued player and will no longer get firmware updates from SanDisk, though in my experience I’ve found the Connect’s firmware to be nearly flawless.

You can play the Connect while it is connected to your PC; I don’t believe this is the case with the Fuze, although there are probably some USB cable hacks out there that will allow you to disable the USB data line so the Fuze can charge and play while connected to your PC.

The Connect’s WiFi functions can be re-enabled so that you can listen to free Yahoo Launchcast music station streams, and view photos stored in your Yahoo Flickr account.  It’s not known how long these services will be provided, though.

A case in point: I bought a refurb Connect through eBay for $23 plus $10 shipping.  I returned it due to a defect and the vendor, Ipodoutlet, sent me another with no shipping charge in either direction.  I’ve no idea if this is common or exceptional, but I was impressed.  The replacement seems to be perfect.  I have an HP 8GB card on order from Amazon for $17, free shipping.  Information from PromisedPlanet and others on this forum tipped the scale to the Connect for me.  I do like some of features the Fuze offers, and I wish I had the Fuze’s 1 year factory warranty.  But I was very attracted to internet radio through Yahoo’s Shoutcast.  I also like the kind of community support the Connect enjoys, and its quasi-orphan status sets up the kind of narrative that makes me pull for it.

I’m new to the MP3 thing and am amazed at the quanity and quality of great music out there at low or no cost.  Right now I’m trying to learn to use my new copy of Mp3tag to pull album/ artist data from sites like Discogs.com, using a script from a thread on a Mp3tag forum, at [WS] Discogs ALL - Web Sources Scripts - Mp3tag Community; You just can’t have this kind of fun with CDs.

although there are probably some USB cable hacks out there that will allow you to disable the USB data line so the Fuze can charge and play while connected to your PC.

Great info! Even if I will travel a lot and I will not own any PC. I will have to use charger…

I live in Argentina, here it is SO difficult to fing good technology and prices are a joke (I mean, a BAD joke. MUCH more than what you pay there).

Even if I have found a new Faze (8gb) for 88US$, and I see it at 99 on Sandisk site…

SO, Faze only function in MSC or both modes? I mean, with faze I gain a mode but I loose the other one?

If I do not have tags in all files, MTP could not be useful, isi´t it?

Otherway, it sounds awesome.

I had not googled for dimensions, you´re right, I did it after this post (before creatign the other one where I ask for comparison between Faze, CLip/CLip+ and E270, the ones I can get here…).

The Fuse can be set to operate in either MSC mode or MTP mode.

MTP is generally only required if you want to sync subscription music (contains DRM), which is becoming pretty rare these days.  Some players may be optimized to refresh their databases faster with music loaded in MTP mode … I think I saw something about that in the Fuse board … but I can’t say for certain.

MTP is also needed for public library audiobooks that are in protected WMA format.  You can see if your local library supports OverDrive audiobooks by searching here, on the right of the page.  If not, they may also support NetLibrary audiobooks (no place to search online, you’ll have to ask your local librarian).

Thanks, I have it clearer now. I thought that MTP was a cool way to organize your music inside the player, by tag. I am not sure which I will prefer, but now I am sure that I will not buy a Connect, so, if Fuze and Clip family and E270 support both modes, I will now have to worry only about the other differences…

Thanks!!!
