rdow , and what about “Ch.Mode” function?
So, what would you do now ?
Isn’t it fully dead ?
And what region type of firmware did you use ?

YEY!!! I can finally see the battery percentage! I didn’t think they’d listen to one whiney Linux userI sure hope the battery indicator is indeed “improved”, but I’ll see how that goes… I’ll find out how the revised shuffle option works shortly… Thankyou, Sandisk(& Sansafix)!!

Ok, I’m not sure if my calculations are correct, but if I’m right, the battery drops from 100-30% in 5 hrs!!! This is based on running the Clip for approx 30 minutes, & the battery dropped from 42-35%. I’ll charge it fully tomorrow, & take complete measurements…
down, O, down, O
Awesome update! Thank you so much Sandisk!
I’ve been really hoping for the large playlist and shuffle fixes. I’ve got a 650 song playlist that used to take about a minute to load and then another minute to start playback. Now it’s about 10 seconds to load and another 10 to start playback. So much better! Also, the shuffle is much improved. Especially like being able to skip back to previous tracks.
I’m blown away by the addition of Ogg! Never expected it to happen and now here it is! Just amazing.
The Clip was already the best player in it’s segment. Now it’s simply one of the best players, period.
Great job Sandisk!
Now I just hope all these goodies make it to the Fuze.
Just for the record, I listened for 30 minutes after fully charging it & the meter still says 100% But why does it still drain faster as it nears 40%? I thought this problem was fixed?

Ch.Mode is a feature for books downloaded from Audible. They break up their large 8-10hr files into arbitrary “chapter” points to make it quicker to skip around in such big files. I don’t believe it will work with non-Audible files.
It appears that the Sansa folks decided to just use the Audible sub-menu interface for all audio books.
Looks like .29 firmware fixes the problem where Overdrive files always would initially start playing from file #2.
FYI for Overdrive users, there is an advanced option during the transfer where you can change the transfer destination and change “Music” to “Audiobooks”. If anyone finds a way to change the default to always point to Audiobooks please let me know.

And so, how would one advance to a different audiobook track, then?
Use the sub-menu button and select the first option to go back to the Audiobooks. That will let you select a different track.

by ogg support… what do they mean, do they support all of the types of ogg? like Speex, Vorbis and FLAC?
i was wondering the same myself regarding ogg support. flac would be a great bonus.
I don’t know yet, I’m keeping track to see how it goes… Or maybe I should drain it completely, to recalibrate the meter?
@miikerman wrote:
But does the power still last about 15 hours for you? If so, the battery indicator just isn’t as fixed as might be desired.
It’s probably fine, I just thought it was strange that the meter was dropping 14% per hr by the time it reached 40%. I thought that was supposed to be fixed? After 1 hr of use, it’s still at 100% I’m keeping track until I charge it again(25%), so we’ll see if I still get at least 15-16 hrs of playtime. The .11 firmware gave me almost 17 hrs, but the .20 firmware gave me MUCH less because the meter dropped too quickly.

FLAC? Really? I don’t know anyone who uses lossless formats (especially) on an ultracompact player. Seems counterintuitive to me…
I could understand how one may hastily come to that conclusion. However, flac is really popular now and still gaining ground. I happen to know a great many folks that do use it (in fact only use it) as it’s becoming the de facto standard for archiving one’s CD collection, outside of Apple lossless. Compression can be 30-50% of the original file size so maybe 4-6 albums on the clip 2GB (that equals twice as much on your 4GB) combined with a quality $100-200 of headphones (given the reviews which reflect the superior SoC audio quality of the clip) and the audiophile crowd can be very happy campers.
I think with the surge of hard drive based MP3 players over the last 6 or so years it’s easy to forget the not too distant past when only one album could fit into a music player (i.e. cd player).

I come from the days of lugging around a Sony D5 CD player, with its bank of C batteries (portable power dock/housing), and TTL electronics that threw of more BTUs than you’d think possible! Prior to that, I used to have a portable open reel too, with its teeny tape reels.
Today, there are days when I’ll download a favorite album or two, and that’s what I will enjoy.
True, having 1000 songs available may be cool, but there is definitely a good percentage of us out there that plan to enjoy quality over quantity.
Especially if one considers the power of these new SanDisk machines, in terms of convenience, price, and unsurpassed audio quality. The scoffs I saw at an early review, where the reviewer tried some very expensive IEMs on the wee Clip, were premature. SanDisk gets the last laugh on that one indeed.
SanDisk is on the right track in going with the new capabilities for these devices; everyone can use the Clip in his own way, regardless of digital format used. Put those earbuds on! Your Clip wants to go out to play.
