Recommended Replacement Backup HDD

I’ve recently changed my iMac.

My original Mid-2007 iMac (before it died) had a factory installed 750Gb Internal HDD. I backed it up with a 1TB WD MyBook HDD using Time Machine (I forget which model the WD drive was). In 2010 the WD backup drive failed. I replaced it with a MyBook Studio 2 2TB that I configured as a 1TB RAID 1 device (mirrored?). All Firewire devices thus far.

Recently my 2007 iMac died and, because it was steadily becoming obsolete, rather than have it repaired I replaced it with a brand new one.

The new iMac came with a 3TB internal HDD. My old iMac had between 4-500GB used of its 750GB internal HDD space taken up (way less than the 1TB backup drive). When I bought my new 3TB iMac I considered that it would be a while before I need consider getting a large capacity external HDD.

Anyway, I’m now getting messages that my Backup drive is out of space so I’m looking for a suitable backup external drive to take over from my current one.

My choice would be another Studio 2. Therefore I’m interested in a 6TB WD Mybook Studio that I can configure as a 3TB RAID 1 device in a similar manner as my current MyBook Studio 2. I plan to have the new 3TB Raid 1 Drive connected to my iMac, then connect the current 1TB RAID 1 MyBook to that. Move my Tim Machine backup to the new 3TB device and relieve my current 1TB Studio 2 to be 1TB of extra space (RAID 1 still so that it backs itself up).

The problem I have is, my new iMac is Thunderbolt 2. All the research I make online refers to says Thunderbolt/Mini DisplayPort. So I’m confused.

My old iMac has Mini Dispay Port. My new iMac has Thunderbolt 2. Cables from one certainly do not fit into the other (according to the photos online).

Can anyone advise me on which MyBook Studio 2 version I need to buy to plug into my new Thunderbolt 2 iMac please?
