Problems with recognizing WD MyBook Studio Edition II 4TB under windows 7

Hello! I bought WD MyBook Studio Edition II 4TB. I’m running MAC OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and Windows 7 ultimate SP1 on MacBook Pro. Under Mac OS there’s no problems with recognizing the station on esata, firewire and usb. Under Windows 7 when the harddisks were empty the windows recognizes WD, but now when the information on the harddisks is about 1.8TB, windows is recognizing the station via esata and firewire but is not showing in explorer and I can’t use it! I read a lot in google and many people are having the same problem, but no one has a solution. Please if you have any ideas how to solve this problem - let me know. I don’t know where I can see the serial number so I can’t write it down. Thanks in advance and sorry for my bad english!

If you have the HDD formatted for Mac only (HFS+) it wont be usable on any Windows PC, if you would like to use it on both you need to backup your files and then format the HDD in FAT32 or ExFat.

Fat:32

This might work I’ve seen it suggested a couple times to make Windows see the Mac format http://www.catacombae.org/hfsx.html The only other software is pay like MacDrive.  The solution using FAT32 has a down size that the max file size is 4 gig. You can move all the data off the drive reformat it for Windows NTFS then get NTFS-3G  http://mac-free.com/download/NTFS-3G.html for your Mac that shouold make the drive usable on both.

Thank you for your support. I’m using MacDrive and till now I haven’t got any problems. I assign a drive letter from Disk managment in windows 7 and the harddisk shows up in explorer, but now when i connect it under mac os the disk wants to initializes because of errors. I don’t know what to do. I reformated to ntfs, but under mac os with paragon ntfs for mac the transfer is very slow!
