Some time ago I bought a My Passport external drive for Mac and if I want to use it with a PC I have to format it. Now I am realizing that I do need a drive that can switch back and forth between a PC and Mac without having to format it every time. I have also a Seagate drive that does that without any problems and I don’t have to format it every time I switch from Mac to PC and vice versa.
I am looking for a portable external drive that I can use with a Mac and PC without having to format the drive constantly or divided it up into two partitions.
Do you have such a drive?
When you as "Do you have such a drive?) People here assume you are addressing WD. You are not; you are addressing the user forum.
You can check at wdc.com External Drive products to see. I do know that some WD drives are (or can be by user) formatted ExFAT and this is a format both PC and Mac can address and use. The My Passort Wireless is one that comes pre-formatted ExFAT. But, you don’t; need that model most likely; you just need a regular drive. If you cannot find a drive this format by looking at the drive specs, I suggest not to pay extra for a Mac version of the drive. Just by the PC version formatted drive and reformat it ExFAT on your Win PC.
The reason your Seagate works on both because Seagate supplies a program to install on the Mac, I believe, that lets it address PC-formatted drives on a Mac as well.
