New User: Startup Problem with WD 2TB MyPassport

Hello Group:

I just bought a WD 2TB Passport last week, and am already confused.  I am using it on a USB2.0 port on a DELL XPS Gen 4 (2005 era) desktop w/1GB DRAM and running with the XPpro OS.

Using WD Smartware vers 2.0.1.

My difficulty is with locating the files that have been backedup.  I have things set for backing up types of files-Category backup.  I was expecting to find individual folders for the various types of files: music, video, others, documents, etc.

However, when using XP Window Explorer and after navigating to the MyPassport directory and subdirectories, e.g., WD SmartWare.swstor , I seem to be finding a  folder name that begins with “Volume” followed by astrange looking string of characters, e.g., _ Volume.ae4d01a6.6bed.11d9.94f5.806d6172696f _ .  May I change that folder’s filename w/o corrupting file structure?

But where are the music, video, and documents type of files?

Also, any folders that are on my Windows desktop do not appear to be backedup on the external MyPassport drive.

I have not found any reference to the backedup  folder filenames within the Help section.

I need help in getting past this intial confusion.

Thanks for reading this.

Vince

Hi,

If you change the name of those folder, smartware wont be able to restore the files when you ask it to do it.

All the files are inside of those folder. That’s the way WD Smartware works, its a way to hide the files. Now if you want to restore those files, you will be able to do that direclty from the software and it will show the files like if you were looking at your computer directory.

Take a look at the user manual for more detailed information.
