Hello. I am apparently a total ■■■■■ since I cannot seem to get the downloaded updated firmware onto my clip. When I attach my clip to the computer, there is no icon on my desktop. I see it in My Computer, which is fine except I cannot drag and drop the update for the firmware into it. I tried the “move folder” option and that didn’t work either. I’ve spent all night trying to do this and I cannot figure out what I am doing wrong or why it’s not working. I also tried formatting, which completely deleted all the songs I had in my player…not a big deal since I didn’t have that many and I can just put them back in. I also tried having the clip in the hold mode and pressing the center button…which showed the player as an E drive device but saw nothing called “root directory” and I still can’t figure out how to drag and drop the extracted zip file. The file is located on my C drive…I just don’t see how to drag and drop this thing. Is updating the firmware really all that important?
Please help me and give me directions as if you’re speaking to a computer illiterate please…lol.
If you look at the directions for your sansa clip there is a website that has information about your player. What you need to do is look for the download for the automatic firmware updater. Install it on your computer and it does everything for you automatically. It even lets you know when there is a new firmware update. I believe you will find it under “Support” on the page that I mentioned. There is also a downloadable manual for your player that didn’t come with the purchase.
Just be careful not to unplug the player during the update or you will fry your player. Don’t do anything else on the puter while the update is in process.
But the Philips Updater just looks at the attached hardware and offers to download (but not install) any needed firmware updates. Works great for my dvd burner and mp3 player. You can install the updates anytime.
ok, Bud, it aint about having probs w/updater; its about unnecessary installs/apps, phoning home, using resources , and on and on , Bud…if you aint comfortable w/some nuts/bolts of your own system, great… let a manufacturer take chunx outta yer system…
someday your sys will conflict, not work, grind to a crawl… and you will take to shop to fix @40/hr… and they will “kill some virus they found” and charge for that… you wont know what hit ya as you make their mortgage payment… how many apps (autoupdaters)you got? i could continue… you get my point–i hope

Sounds like someone has a personal problem with some pc shop

i m in IT… got no probs… thanx for your concern
then you can charge 40 dollars an hour to fix pcs too! and 40 dollars an hour is a bargain in todays IT age. I think updates are for the less tech savy people who dont know whats what, if you work with customers that have little to no pc knowledge… then you know what im talking about.
40/hr is cut for me… you dont need to be an Edwin Catmull to know whats goin on in task manager…elementary as 3grade arithmetic, or takin driving test if that demeans you…even kids learn to have control and responsibility for what the machine does…things dont run rite on cluttered units… you aint gonna change my mind and it s not really opinion, its experience
I think perhaps you lost site of the original posters request for help. He is obviously not a tech savvy person so something like an updater was meant for people like him to make it user friendly for an update.
None of your ranting about cluttered systems and “big brother watching us” is really appropriate here. It is your opinion and you are entitled to it, but please don’t make it sound like everyone who uses any update program is an ■■■■■. If they didn’t serve a purpose then companies would not make them. There is obviously a need or they wouldn’t bother.
I am a CompTIA Microsoft certified technician in hardware and software so I am speaking with some extended experience here myself. To say that every updater is going to drag your system down and have people spying on you is absurd. I appreciate your point of view but in the end it is nothing more than that… your point of view. If you are truly in IT you would know there are many solutions to a problem and the end result is what is important not how you get there.
Now let’s get back to the original topic and make comments that are of some constructive help to the poster and not just argumentative statements please. He can choose for himself whether he wants to take the advice or not.
oh and by the way I built my system from scratch…no conflicts or problems…Bud…
““If they didn’t serve a purpose then companies would not make them. There is obviously a need or they wouldn’t bother””
riiiiggghhhhhtttttt… sorry, BUD, now i smell a poser… NO self respecting ““CompTIA Microsoft certified technician in hardware and software”” would put that out there…not one… education in the basix always serves…your advice to use it is patronizing, demeaning , insulting … the bin file is free to use… when you tell someone to install an updater, you re saying theyre too stupid to drop a file manually… dont hijack this thread anymore…i aint hatin, just truthin
Wow, I didn’t realize my request for help would start such a ruckass. Anyhow, thank you Really Lost for your help as your advice worked for me and my clip is now all updated and I can go ahead and take care of the ones I purchased for my girls for Christmas. And by the way, I’m female, not male…LOL.
