My drive is 3 years old andd used to backup automatically just fine.
This problem seems to have begun with the software update in early summer. When I run Category Backup, the WD does not recognize and backup new files or files that have been changed. It says it is backing up successfully but when I look at what has been backed up, none of the new or changed files are included.
The only remedy I have found is to do a complete uninstall and reinstall of the WD software. When I do that, it runs a total backup and catches the changes.
I have contacted WD about this several times and none of their solutions such as unenable then reenable backup, reinstall software, etc, fix the problem. They now claim it is a software glitch that they will try to fix but I think they just said that to get rid of me and are actually doing nothing about it.
FWIW, I ran all the diagnostics on the drive and it checks out perfect so I am certain this is a WD software issue or some problem with the interaction of the WD with my PC.
I am running the latest firmware and software.
Anybody else have similar experiences and any solutions?
Right now, I am very close to ditching WD (forever) and trying a different company’s external drive with backup software.
