MyBook Duo Unusable with El Capitan

I’ve noticed a lot of people having this problem. And can’t find any kind of fix. Calling WD Tech WD Support is a complete waste of time. They aren’t willing to even admit it’s a known issue and just recommend reformatting. It’s hard to believe this company is that utterly callous and irresponsible.

I’ve tried lots of things, Disk Utility, All of WD’s software. Nothing works to get the drive mounted and I know there’s absolutely nothing wrong with them. I have to 8GB drives and both have the identical symptoms, and both worked flawlessly before the upgrade. The “System Information” application sees them, but Disk Utility doesn’t.

I guess the best we can do is simply to scour the web for solutions and hope that eventually, once WD or someone else understands and fixes the problem that they’ll be recoverable and usable again.

My Passport Ultra was working fine with my late 2015 27" iMac under 10.11.4, but when I upgraded to .5 yesterday I completely lost it: like you, System Profiler shows it connected to the USB 3.0 port, but Disc Utility can’t find it. There’s got to be some way to access it, but my Google-Fu has yet to find an answer. May the Force be with both of us…
