My Passport ultra is empty but says there's not enough space

I recently purchased a 3tb internal drive to use for an artwork folder that became too big for my 1tb internal drive. My 1tb ‘My passport ultra’ used to backup said art folder from the internal drive, but now I want it to backup from the 3tb and I’m having nothing but problems. I first deleted everything on the passport ultra thinking I could just go through setup again and point the drive to backup from the 3tb, but it says there’s not enough space! To be clear, the amount of data I’m trying to backup to the passport ultra is only 616gb, and the passport is empty. Why am I getting a message about storage space from a drive that has nothing in it? It’s set to NTFS, btw.

Since I encountered the problem I’ve done a quick format, made sure it was still NTFS, and tried to backup again. I get nothing but a message saying ‘there’s not enough space’.

Try to copy the files from a different computer to see if the same thin happens this is strange, i would understand if it were a FAT 32 drive but not NTFS.
