My Passport showing as Not Initialised and Unallocated

My WD My Passport 070A does not appear in File explorer but under disk management it shows up as Unknown, Unallocated and Not Initialised with 279.44GB. When I try to initialise it I am told ‘access is denied’. It does not give me the option to change drive letter or path etc. How can I retrieve my data (pictures) and repair this device to working order?

I had the same problem and went to WD Security App and remove the password. I then got access to the drive and reset the password.

Do right click on the drive and check the ownership of that drive. There are times when ownership of the drive gets change and make the owner restricted from accessing the drive. In such case user can edit the ownership setting of the drive and make it accessible again.

For Your Information… “initializing” a hard drive formats it … wiping / erasing all your data

so, if you want to retrieve your data (pictures) you should NEVER try to initialize it.
