My Book 2TB secondary addition

Hello,

I have a My Book 3.0 USB external drive that was all but out of space I purchased about 1-1/2 months ago. I purchased another yesterday and did the updates requested. The original My Book drive now shows no data and says requires formatting!! I am in desperate need of help to find these files that don’t show after the firmware update installations yesterday that caused a blue screen flash and reboot. I can not re-enter all that data in time to even think of where to start, it was saved files from 2 other systems I no longer have the hard drives for and includes all my military and medical record from the past 11 years. Please someone help me figure this out as soon as possible.

Thank you,

Jack Kramer

Was the original drive hooked up when you updated the new one? If so it may be corrupt. Does it show in Disk Management and what does it say?

The original was connected when I hooked up the new one and it installed on it’s own. I then installed the updates the drives were requesting and then restarted the system after power cycling as I was instructed, after restarting it no longer showed any files in my drive and re-named it drive P from drive O which it assigned to the new drive.

It also tells you to disconnect USB devices other than the one you are updating. It sounds like the first drive got corrupt. Disconnect the working one and try updating the faulty one. With only the bad one connected does it show in Disk Management? If you corrupted that firmware you’re probably out of luck.

I did disconnect it during the update, it won’t start with more than one plugged in.

Lets start again what OS are you using? Disconnect the good drive for now and leave the problem one connected. Look in Disk Management down by the bars and what does it say and does the drive have a letter assingned? Look in device Manager and see if there are any yellow flags showing.

Windows 7 Home Premium, 64 bit, I was told to try a partial partition reformat that destroyed everything on the drive and have now lost everything probably to include my job. Thank you for you try’s to help. I should have never llistened to the windows guy.

A very sad, Jack

I was trying to get things sorted out before suggesting something that caused a disaster. You might try some data recovery software like EaseUSthe free version http://www.partition-tool.com/professional.htm or Recuva  http://www.piriform.com/recuva
