MSC "CLIPP"

Hi all. Thanks for this forum.

I am using 01.02.09 via Sansa Updater. I have also manually reinstalled the firmware.

My computer will not connect to my Clip+ unless I am in MSC.  When the Clip+ is connected, my computer assigns both the internal drive and the external SD card slot drive letters even without the SD card being in the slot. It’s funny, too, that the Internal Drive is labeled and spelled “SANSA CLIPP”

My computer displays the internal memory root directory with folders and the following files - MTABLE, SYS_CONF, WMPInfo, RES_INFO, version.sdk

When I open one of the folders, like say MUSIC, there are no files displayed within the folder, even though there’s a crapload of music on my Clip+. The internal drive has 2907MB free.

If the gadget gods are with me, please give me an easy fix without having to do a format.

This is normal for MSC mode. And no, the spelling is not incorrect in Windows Explorer. The extra ‘P’ designates yours is a Clip+. The ‘+’ symbol is not allowed.

If you’re not seeing any music while connected in this mode, the player must have at one time connected in MTP (probably in Auto Defect mode) that allowed you to put the existing music files onto it. Your computer cannot see what was added in MTP while the player is connected in MSC, and vice-versa.

A lot of people have connection issues when using MTP. And stay away from Auto Defect altogether. Unless you really need MTP for DRM-crippled content, like Rhapsody or Overdrive/Audible audio books, I’d suggest formatting the player, switch manually to MSC and re-load everything. Yes, it might take a while depending on how full the player’s memory is, but once you do it, it’s done. And you won’t have any further connection problems.

As with most things in my tech-life, I usually wind up going around the longest way.

That being said… I sincerely appreciate the support Tapeworm, and thanks for the speedy reply, too! I can get it fixed now. :smileyvery-happy:
