MAC USER--can't free up memory space on my fuze!

I am at a loss as to how to delete files from my fuze.  It only will give me the message “free 90mb.”  I’m unable to do this either by turning on the fuze (it won’t do anything except show the message) and I’ve plugged it in to my mac and deleted all the files from the screen—all folders show they are empty, and the fuze will not play or turn on.  I’ve tried reformatting it the way others have mentioned here and it either can’t or won’t format.  Help?

You might try the suggestion in this post.

DUh (as I slap my forehead)–Thanks, I’m going to try that right now!  Keeping my fingers crossed.

Nope–didn’t work.  Still am getting the same message.  Is my Fuze toast?

No, but you’re going to have to borrow a Windows computer. The 90mb message usually means you have a bad file that’s messing things up. If you have a microSD card in there, take it out and see if it boots up without the message. That would be a relief–you’d know the bad file is on the microSD.

Otherwise, visit a Windows pal.

Leave out the microSD.

Put the Fuze in MSC mode under Settings/System Settings/USB Mode. If you can’t, then turn it off, put the HOLD switch on (slide the power switch down till it clicks and you see an orange dot), hold the << button and connect–that forces the MSC connection. You should see two drives in Windows Explorer (Computer or My Computer).

Right-click on the one that says Sansa Fuze.  Go to Properties/Tools/Error-Checking. Check for errors. If you’re lucky, it will find and fix the bad file.

If you’re not lucky, you are going to have to right-click on the Sansa again and Format it–which will wipe out everything you had put on, including the bad file.  Before you do that, assuming you can connect, back up anything you don’t have elsewhere. But be careful before you put it back on the Fuze–do just a few albums at a time–because the bad file is probably among them.

Thanks so much for the help—somehow, what with pushing various pushable things, I managed to clear everything.  I also re-formatted it–this MP3 is strictly for audiobooks–so wiping everything clean was not painful in the least.  Again, this is such a great resource for all of us technology impaired people–thank you so much!
