A little background: I bought, on behalf of my company, 50 of the 320 GB MyPassport to use in customer situations. I was dismayed when I got it to find that it had a Smartware VCD which caused confusion with our customers. However, I found out that WD provided a smartware update and also a removal tool, that completely removed that Smartware VCD.
Fast forward 2 years, and a few of the drives failed in warranty. I sent them back, and was given refurbished 500 GB MyPassports in return. At first I was quite pleased about this, but now, I find I have a different VCD called “Unlocker” and from googling around it appears there is no tool or application provided to disable this. Is that the case?
Please do not guess if you are unsure. I’d actually like to hear directly from WD since I am a big customer. Do I need to send these drives back and ask for the original 320 GB ones?
