Is it a good idea to put rockbox on your 8 gigabyte fuze??

Even though the bootloader installation and rockbox itself are tested, there’s always a risk of BRICKING your device PERMANENTLY. The Sansa AMS (except the e200v2, for which it involves opening the player) have no known method for recovery, so this risk will not go away, even in (if any) future stable releases.

I’m not sure I like this quote on the Rockbox site.

Thats not quite 100% correct.  You can unbrick a Fuze, but its so hard to do that a lot of users might not be able to manage it (you have to open the player and stick a screw driver or piece of wire to enable a recovery mode).

I have used rockbox on V1 fuze for a month. Unless you want extra settings rock box is not required on fuze. Fuze supports flac and ogg. The only missing is aac. battery runtime is less on Rockbox.

But the skins, wps are great on Rockbox.

The themes and the sound adjustments  more than make up for a little less battery…not to mention no more database refresh! Until this Fuze dies, I’ll only use RB on it.

On a V2 fuze, you’ll get better battery life with rockbox for Ogg and Flac.  The sandisk firmware is only better for mp3 (and maybe wma?).  Hopefully that won’t be true much longer.
