i backed up my pc on my my wd passport, when i first used my wd i set automatically open without asking for a password, so i forgot my password couple of months ago i had virus on my pc so i decided do back up all my stuff on my wd, and after i recovered my pc, i plugged my wd they asked for password which i forgot totally forgot helpppppp
It is designed specifically to not allow access once a password is added. WD does not have a “universal” password or a backdoor to bypass the security. When you setup the password, it should have asked to add a “hint” to help you remember the password. Unfortunately there is no way to get around the password protection. You can keep trying different passwords until it tells you that you have tried too many attempts and will ask if you want to format the drive. Ignore the warning and safely eject the drive, wait a minute and then plug it again to try some more passwords.
thanks for ur rply, no other way ??? i have all the data of my life in the external
No, sorry. That’s why you never want to have “all your eggs in one basket”. Portable drives can easily be dropped, lost, or stolen. The security is there to protect your data. If there was an easy way to get around it, people wouldn’t have any confidence in the product.
Hi,
Timothy_G is correct on what he mentioned.
You will either way have to format the drive to be able to use it, and hopefully you can recover partial data using a Data Recovery Software online.
