How long does it take to synch music to Sansa Clip+?

I just got a new Sansa Clip+ 8GB and I am using Windows Mediaplayer 11 to synchronizing my music files. There are about 1,500 Mp3 songs.

Does it normally take several hours to do this?

My Sansa e280 only took about 45 minutes to synch the same files.

Look closely at WMP…if it is taking that long it may be converting the files as it syncs them. It can be sneaky like that, if you don’t go through all the options and disable certain default behaviors it has.

Thanks Marvin. I just got off the phone with Tech Support and we tried a reformat and a system reset. He said they are working on a firmware update but he didn’t know when that was coming. He told me that my unit is defective so I’m returning it for a replacement and hopefully the next one will be good.

Before you return this player to the store there are a few things you may want to consider. First the tech support agent you spoke with is not entirely correct.

Transfer rate of the clip+ will be slower than the older products. This is expected behavior as the newer sansa line uses a lower cost slower memory than older products used.

You also mentioned on your call with tech support that the battery icon never stopped blinking. There are several people with this issue so it seems to be a bug in the current firmware.

You also mention that the Clip+ will shut off when connected to the computer. When the Clip+ is connected to the computer the backlight will time out and turn off. This is to preserve the OLED lifespan.

The product you have very well may not be defective.

I understand but it shouldn’t take approximately 4 hours to transfer 1,500 Mp3 songs (I gave up twice after 50% at 2 hours). The technician told me it should have only taken about 45 minutes.

As a consumer of a newly purchased Sansa Clip+, I would assume that the information the technician gave me was correct. Going to this forum to seek remedy seems conflicting when I depended on a trained Sansa employee to help resolve the issues with my player.

I really like the Clip and hope that a replacement might help.

Thank you.

If the music is not protected, transfer it using copy and paste with Windows Explorer. If your songs total around 6 GB, it should take less than 50 minutes. Are you using a notebook pc? If so, then make sure it is plugged in. On battery power, many notebooks roll back the USB to USB1, which is extremely slow! Another thing. If you are connecting through a USB hub, and have a USB1 item plugged into it, everything on that USB connector may go at USB1 speed. If you are using a notebook, have you check the power saving settings and made sure the USB isn’t reverting to USB1 to save power.

Takes me about forty-five minutes to copy roughly 12.5GB of music onto my Clip+'s microSD card while in MTP mode.  I just use drag and drop to accomplish this, as it works best for me.
