When i try to drag and drop or copy paste a file over 4GB i get a message (file is too large for the destination file system ), can somebody tell me how to do it please?
You’d have to re-format the drive to NTFS. Fat32 won’t support files over 4GB.
Thank you Roofing guy, can you please tell me how to re-format the drive, and if i will loose the files that i have on the passport?
Well, if there’s data on it, ya a format will wipe your data, but you’re still ok…
Open a Command Prompt and then type:
convert drive letter: /fs:ntfs
For example, to convert drive E to NTFS:
convert e: /fs:ntfs
Microsoft warns that there is a minimal chance of data corruption, so if anything’s critical to you, I’d back it up before trying the convert, but most people encounter no issues whatsoever when converting a drive.
When i try to convert the My Book Drive like you describe, I get the message:
“Conversion from FAT32-volumes to NFTS-volumes is not available.”
Any idea why the conversion doesn’t work?
Thanks, Dacuz
Great, it worked! The prompt message above was due to a typo, my bad.
For rookies like me who don’t know anything about fat32/ntfs/re-formatting, this might come in handy: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/11106-convert-fat-fat32-volume-ntfs.html
Thanks a heap! Dacuz
