Folders will not play?

Hey, HI…here’s my problem, I have a folder full of music that I specifically need for a certain project. I can download it to my Sansa View, but then it does not show. How can I keep the music seperate from the rest of my music, and just open that particular folder when needed?

The View organizes your audio files by ID3 tags, not by folders. Newer Sansa players have had folder navigation added as part of a firmware update, but not the View (and don’t expect it to be added, either. It’s been nearly 3 years since the View was updated.)

If your files aren’t listed, the ID3 tag data is missing/incomplete (in which case everything will be lumped together under “Unknown”), or the files are in an unsupported format. Tag data can be edited with MP3Tag. Set MP3Tag to write the tags in ID3v2.3 ISO 8859-1 format for maximum compatibility with Sansa players.

In short, you can’t. The View does not read or play by folders/files. Rather it uses the information contained in the ID3 tag of the audio file to populate it’s lists (Artists, Albums, Track, Genres, etc.) that you see and then can select from to play.

The only way to do what you want with the View is to create a playlist containing those songs. But then, if you want to isolate those files from being played with all the others, you’ll need to create a playlist containing everything but these files.

While that may sound like a lot of bother for such a simple request, you might try this little trick I use with my Clip+; it should work with the View too. Put all the files from your ‘special’ folder into the Audiobook folder on your View. This will keep them separated from the rest of your musical population so they won’t be selected when you want to Play All. You’ll just have to go to the Audiobook menu when you want to play these files.

One caveat though . . . If you tend to use the EQ, it won’t work on those files located in the Audiobook folder. I nver use the EQ with my Clip+ so that doesn’t bother me. I put those albums I want to listen to in their entirety from start to finish in this folder. It seems to work well for me.
