e250 v1 2 gb - Problems need HELP

my screen is frozen on “refreshing database” I have tried some of the suggestions on the website, no luck, can anyone offer me assistance to resolve and get me back on again… thanks

Not unless you tell us what "some of the suggestions on the website’ are that you’ve tried already.

Have you tried searching the SanDisk Support Knowledge Base?

ok I tried forcing it to  MSC mode which was successful, then I tried downloading to the sansa updated firmware and i get an error message that says, unable to update/ finished. so i can not do anything. please advise. thanks

sorry says" update service not available" then it finishes, please advise what i am doing wrong or do not have? thanks

Don’t use the Updater. Just get the appropriate fimware for your version of player from here and follow the manual installation instructions.

Check the firmware version in the Info section of your Settings menu on the player though, unless you’re sure you know for a fact it is a v1. You can’t trust the markings on the back plate.

I gave you a link to the firmware post. See my previous message for the word “here” underlined and printed in red.

That (linked-to) firmware post has a listing of links to firmware posts for all Sansa mp3 players. You click on the one for your e200v1 machine and there you will see the instructions for downloading and installing the firmware.

I can’t make it any simpler than it already is.

easy for you to say, :manhappy: I guess i just do not get it, because i can not get it to work, once it downloads, the firmware updater or the americas  i can not read or launch the files to update the firmware.

ok when i extract the files from the zip i get 2 files, pp5022.mi4, and another file, what do i do with them? my computer can not read them?? please advise

also you mentions instructions i do not see any instructions. please advise.

Your computer isn’t supposed to be able to read them.  Even if it can, those files are meant for your player.

These are the instructions for manually updating the firmware as per the firmware post.

The instructions below applies to Windows , Mac , and Linux Operating Systems.

  1. Once downloaded, extract the .zip file into a folder (take note to remember where you saved it).
  2. Next, change the device’s mode from MTP to MSC by going to “Settings” then “USB Mode”, then selecting MSC.
  3. Next, connect the device to the computer and it should show up with a drive letter. In the root directory of the Sansa e200v1, add the firmware files you just extracted from the zip.
  4. Once its been added, disconnect the device, it will then say that it is upgrading the firmware. It will eventually turn off. Once it turns off, turn it back on, and it should ask you for a language to select. Once the language is chosen, head to Settings > Info and verify that the “Version” is the same as the latest verstion, mentioned above.

Okay, you have done step 1.

Did you do step 2?

In Step 3, the root directory is the window that opens up when you open the drive letter for the Sansa in MyComputer or Computer.  Just drag-and-drop those extracted files into that window.  It’s the internal memory of your Sansa.

Now do step 4.

thanks, i copied the files to K: which is the player, and disconnect and still get refreshing database.  not sure what else to do, can i call you and help me through this?? thanks jay

ok i am not able to do step 2. how do i do that since the screen is frozen on refreshing database? i can not seem to see in the instructions the link does not work for me? please advise

Since you mentioned in a previous post that you “forced MSC mode”, your player should already be in MSC mode.  I take it that you didn’t get a message like “updating or upgrading the firmware” on the screen after you put the extracted files on the Sansa and then disconnected?

If so, unless someone else have other suggestions, you probably have to format your player through the computer.  Be sure to have backups of your music.  Formatting the player will delete everything except the firmware off of it.  Format as FAT since it’s a 2gb one.

Did you start to get the non-stop “refreshing the database” message after you just finished adding some music onto the Sansa?  If so, one or more of those files are either corrupt or there is something in the file(s) that the Sansa doesn’t like and can’t process.

thanks so much, actually i got the refreshing database after i attempted to install the media info.

Anyhow, I will reformat funny I tried that early and had no luck doing that either.

actually the message i got was system updated. but it was very fast, not sure if it did it. i would guess it did not. since i see no change

says upgrade finished, then resetting, and does the same “refreshing database”  thoughts??? will be happy to re-format, how do i do that?

ok will not format, only goes to 16 mb, and select format (FAT) says cannot format. suggestions?

You have one stubborn player.  It refuses to get out of “refreshing database”.

With the player connected. right-click on the drive letter of the Sansa, and select “format”.   Make sure it’s being formatted as FAT.

Or run an error check on it, on the player’s drive letter, right click on it and select properties, then click on the Tools tab, then on the error checking feature, click on the Check Now button.

If that doesn’t work, then the only other thing I can recommend is contacting Tech Support.
