DEAD Express

i recently wanted to update to the lasted firmware. win7 64bit. now for some reason the sansa updater wouldnt work and tried the manual update right from firmware download. still no luck so i tried recovery mode and thought it was gonna work then it asked had to be formated to continue and i did and still didnt work but this time it messed up cause it did reconize it as a flash drive not a express. ive tried a few things to get it going and not its dead, nothing happens when i goto plug it in windows dont even see it but i do see a change in Device manager when i plug and unplug it.

any help and is there any alternative to boot this up manually or any way in CMD prompt i can work at this. like i dont know how this messed up so bad

This is most likely how it messed up so bad. You NEVER want to allow Windows to format it while connected in Recovery mode! It wipes out all the operating files.

well from what i looked at that was the only choice forums stated to put it in that mode and it wouldnt continue without doing so or the firmware program wouldnt continue. so is there any program i can get to fix it or a program i can use to program it back this is only like 2 months old got it at sears.

Wow! Must’ve have been some really old stock. The last firmware update for this discontinued model was almost 2 years ago.

You might take a look at this post. It may or may not help, but at this pioint it can’t hurt.

now it is picking up on windows but as a removeable drive. is there anything i can do at this point to restore the express. it defently does something when  i start the update.exe but still comes up to format the device in order to use on windows. what can i do there must be someone that can help with this

its almost like the update.exe gets stuck cause when i start it it makes the noise when u plug it in

Bump.

Is there nobody out there who knows how to solve this problem?

Sandisk should have stated to not let Windows format the effing player

I didnt know what else to do since it wouldnt continue without formatting

Im never buying a Sandisk device again, and I’ll remind my friends how poorly manufactured their devices are

try this thread.   It may work.  Either way, you have nothing to lose.

Alright, I’m happy now.

Tried every possible combination of fixes for this mofo device. It always gets stuck at sansaexpressupdater.exe.

Figured since the updater required me to format while the device was in Recovery mode when I first tried updating the firmware, it’s beyond repair. I clicked yes because there was no effing label stating not to format while it’s in Recovery mode. And there was no other choice. Format or just let it be in its bricked state.

After days of endless headaches and migraines I found the ultimate solution that should be done with ALL SE.

I plugged it out of my PC and threw the goddamn thing on the floor.

Best **bleep** decision of my life. :smileyvery-happy:

Maybe I’ll go buy an iPod touch.

My sansa express also died like many other ones have from what i read on the internet. I finally have it coming up as a disk drive but cannot load the drivers or firmware. I have tried all the suggestions that there is. All i need to do is get the right drivers onto it and then the firmware will load. I do have the correct drivers for it but they won’t install.  Any new suggestion would be appreciated.
