Clip+ won't turn on

I was using my Clip+ at the gym and it turned off. I’ve had it for about 2 weeks and haven’t charged it since it’s inital charge, so I figured it had run out of battery, although the battery meter showed full the day before.

When i got home i plugged it into the computer and it still will not turn on. I think it might be broken. I didn’t drop it or anything, it was in my pocket.

Try resetting it.

From the User’s Guide:

Reset

If the Sansa® Clip+ MP3 player freezes up for any reasons, press the Power button and hold it for approximately 15 seconds. This is similar a power down of the player. However, be aware that once you perform the reset, any adjustments you made during the last operation will be lost.

Elaborating a wee bit on the  soft reset might help.  What the User Guide is referring to is the “save” operation that normally takes place each time you power off your Sansa.

When the Sansa displays “goodbye”, information about the last operations made, setting changes, last song played, position within the file, et cetera, are saved.

If the Clip freezes, this information is used to restore the player to the last successful point.  Cool, huh?

Thank-you so much for posting this.  It really works!  I was trying to find out the warranty period and instead came across this answer since my clip would not startup.  Now I am back at the gym listening to a book.

This is a bug SanDisk should investigate – it has happened to me twice, and I’ve seen it happen to plenty of other people.

My guess is most people who wind up with this problem never make it to these forums, and just throw it out.

It’s not a bug, and I seriously doubt whether anyone is just throwing out a (~$50) player that’s only a couple months old. Resets are occasionally needed all all Sansa players, not just the Clip+.

The “soft reset” doesn’t work for me. I’ve tried it several times and nothing. I’ve connected it with the USB cord to my computer for several hours so I know it’s had plenty of time to charge. I thought about taking the battery out and replacing it, but I see no way of getting to the battery. I’ve tried updating the Firmware and it is unresponsive (the screen is completely dark as if it’s off) when I disconnect it to complete the update.

Given the situation, I would suggest taking (or sending) it back to where you bought it for an exchange if possible. If not, contact SanDisk directly. Maybe Tech support can get you going, but if not they can set you up with an RMA# (Returned Merchandise Authorization) and replace it for you.
