Can Fuze take advantage of faster memory?

Just wondering if anyone has specifically compared the performance of Class 4 vs Class 2 sdhc in the Fuze. Is the fuze capable of using the higher speeds? Are transfers faster? Are Media Refreshes faster?

Just wondering before I plop down an extra $50 for a class 4 16gb card.

Thanks,

BTW, Thanks to sansa for paying attention to this board and putting up with our bitching!

Yes. You’ll see the difference in transfer rates, and possibly in database refresh times. I had a slower flash card (presumably Class 2, though it wasn’t marked), and I couldn’t play video from it without stuttering; I don’t have that problem with my new Class 4 card. From the standpoint of playing music, its the same.

Where have you seen a class 4 16GB card? Are you sure you’re not confusing microsdhc with SDHC? I’ve only seen class 2 16GB microsdhc cards so far. If there are other options I would certainly like to have a look.

Check Amazon.com. Here’s the link: Sandisk Ultra 16gb micro

I guess it will depend on how much video you want to watch, as bdb said.Class 2 is fine for music, and on that page, $99.95 for the class 4 vs. $46.88 for the class 2…for me, I don’t do any Fuze video, so I would just get the class 2. So you like videos on your Fuze?Seems to me that would be the deciding factor. Good luck:smiley:

I really don’t watch video on the Fuze. The screen is just too small.  What I’d really like to do is speed up media refreshes. I’m just afraid that with 16 gb of class two memory the refreshes will get really tedious.

Well, in my case, I have an 8GB card in a 4GB Fuze. But I rarely have to switch content, so I refresh maybe once a week. All my daily content swapping(podcasts, mostly) I put on my 2GB Clip. So it depends on how often you think you’ll be adding/removing content from your Fuze, really. You are correct in wondering how long that kind of refresh could take…mine has never been more than 4.5 minutes, but you will have more memory to refresh

I’ve got an 8 gig V2 Fuze that’s full. I also have an 8 gig sandisk microsdhc card for it thats full The card doesn’t have any rating on it so I’m assuming it’s class 2.The player has 1205 files, and has only 300 meg free. The card has another 638 files on it and has 47 meg free. Right now I’m syncing it at least once a day since I listen to podcasts a lot.

With the card in it takes about 2:05 to refresh, without the card it only takes about 40 seconds. The card seems to add about 85 seconds to the sync. Following that logic, if I replaced it with a 16 gb class 2 card and filled it up, it would add another 85 seconds to sync, for a total of 3:30 for sync.  If the processor and card reader in the Fuze can take advantage of the extra speed of the class 4, I would expect the sync speed to drop significantly, perhaps back to 2:00 or so with a full 16 gb card. If anyone has a similar class 2 and class 4 card on hand I’d be interested in their results.
