Bubbled and Peeling Paint Back Cover

Hello

My Silver 8GB Sansa Fuze is 6 months old. The rubberized paint/film on the back cover began to “bubble” a couple of weeks ago, and the inevitable breaks and now peeling have occurred.

I have seen some other discussions of ways to paint the back cover - I don’t think I am inclined to take the expense and effort. In one discussion, the possibility of corrosion on the unpainted aluminum surface was raised. Does anyone have experience with this? Should I just strip the remainder of the paint/film and leave the aluminum back bare?

Here are pictures of the situation;

Get one of the cheap silcone jackets off amazon.  You can get them for basically shipping costs.

It looks like your Fuze was exposed to some kind of solvent or petroleum product.  Do you recall getting it around some paint thinner, benzene, acetone (nail polish remover) or other cleaner (googone, xylene etc)?

I’ve had a problem similar to that. I’ve only had it almost 3 months and the little code on the back somehow got white(it looked like white out). But no one would’ve done that. Today the white part came off. Now it’s just blue. I hope the code isn’t important…

As long as it didn’t say Da Vinci I think you’re OK. :smileyvery-happy:

Actually that’s the serial number, but not to worry . . . it’s electronically coded into the player. Wanna see it? Connect in MTP mode and go to Properties in Windows Explorer.

Thank you for the replies everyone.

No solvent exposure that I am aware of - I have not cleaned it with anything other than a microfibre cloth. I have applied sunscreen with my hands and then held the Fuze in my hand after - maybe some residue on my hand could cause this?

The back is metal not plastic (unlike the front that certainly is plastic). I wish it had the metal back like my old e280 - looked good, durable and no coating to deal with.

My serial number also got rubbed off - but no worry - like Tapeworm said - you can find it if you need it via Explorer.

I think I am going to remove the rest of it and leave it bare and maybe get the silicon jacket.

cool

The elastomeric coating on the back is nice, but easily damaged.  It’s possible that sonething has chemically reacted with it, even acidic perspiration can do that, if the coating didn’t bond properly with the light metal skin.

I’ve seen one Fuze where the owner buffed the back with a light abrasive (I would use 3M Scotchbrite), giving it a brushed metal look, very nice.

You can also clean the back, tape (mask) the plastic face, and coat the back with a super cool krinkle finish paint.

Thanks a lot. I was getting worried there for a second…
