I recently purchased a 1.5 TB My Passport for use primarily in backing up large video files, some ranging anywhere from 18 to 30 GB. There’s no problem writing small files to the device but once a file gets into the GB size and beyond the write progress stops. Both of my machines have USB 2.0 only, and I’ve used the ports on the back of the case.
Some troubleshooting steps so far:
HDTune:
reports 6 damaged blocks.
Western Digital’s DLGDIAG quick test:
"Quick Test on drive 2 did not complete!
Status code = 07 (Failed read test elements, Failure Checkpoint = 97 (Unknown Test)
SMART self-test did not complete on drive 2!"
WD Drive Utilities:
SMART Test status: Passed
Quick Drive Test: Failed
I’m trying to figure out if I got a bad drive or if the USB 3.0 Passports just won’t work with my current hardware.
Any ideas?
