Backup not working to schedule

Hi

When I first set a schedule up for WD Backup to backup my desktop to an external ‘my Passport ultra’ drive, everything worked as expcted. A backup each day at 7pm, and the WD Backup icon showed on the Taskbar when my computer booted up.

After a while, I removed the WD Backup icon from my taskbar as I felt it to be unnecessary clutter, but from that point onwards the backup has failed to run to the schedule.

I have tried:

  • deleting the schedule and creating a new one

  • Uninstalling and re-installing the backup software (with the install process finding an update)

None of these has changed matters, and when my machine boots up I don’t see the WD Backup icon on the taskbar as expected; it only shows if I open WD backup.manually

In Task Manager, I see the following WD related processes:

  • WD Drive Service - running

  • WD Backup Snapshot - stopped

  • WD Backup Drive Helper - stopped

I’m assuming that the Drive Service is the one that should be monotoring the time and invoking the backup, but I can’t be sure.

I’m running on a Dell with Vista Ultimate.

Anyone have any ideas as to why the backup won’t work automatically?

Hi,

Sounds like the computer is not uploading the software when you turn the computer on. Check the configuration of your computer and see if the WD Backup is allow to start when you turn your computer on.

You should be able to see that at on your system configuration on the tab for startup.

Thanks for the suggestion. However, using MSCONFIG and looking at the SERVICES tab, I see the following services as ‘ticked’::

WD Drive Manager (Western Digital Technologies)
WD Backup Snapshot (Microsoft)
WD Backup Drive Helper (Microsoft)

I’m not sure why the manufacturer of the last two are showing as Microsoft and not WD…

Then, on the STARTUP tab, I see the following as ‘ticked’:

WDD DriveAutoUnLock.exe (Western Digital Technlogies Inc)
WD App Manager (Western Digital Technlogies Inc)

Is something missing/incorrect?
