Hello all. I’ve been a very satisfied Fuze owner since last summer, and just got the chance today to pick up a new 4GB Clip for a nice steal, so I snagged it. I love it. While my Fuze holds alot more and feels alot easier to navigate, I love the cool factor and portability of the Clip, combined with how easy it is to use and navigate compared to other bite-size mp3 players, especially those that don’t give you screens, or you know, controls *cough*(shuffle)*cough*.
Anyway, I already have a nice set of Phillips SHS8000 earhook earbuds that sound great with my Fuze, and I love that setup. The problem is its a pain to constantly deal with all the cords. I was thinking that it would be very cool to find a nice set of over-the-ear headphones (preferably for no more than around $40) that I could directly attach the Clip to? I was wondering if anyone has done this already, and what set did you use? Obviously, I’d need a cable wrap, or just wrap the cord around the headband, but I could just clip the Clip to the band or something. I could even integrate a Fiio E5 into that setup for some incredible sound out of what is essentially nothing more than a big pair of cordless headphones! As I said, has anyone done this, or have any suggestions? Do y’all think this is even a good idea?

I’ve done it. Panasonic RP-HTX7 headphones, 8GB black clip. I think I could actually hook my FiiO E5 to the opposite side as well, but I haven’t tried. I have also run the cord around the back of my neck and then clipped the Clip to it lanyard style.
^^ Cool! That’s kinda what I was envisioning, maybe with a cable-wrap or something to keep everything integrated into the headphones. I’ve seen 'phones with integrated mp3 players, but none in which both the 'phones AND the player didn’t ■■■■. Still, I think it would be nice to have such a setup, and the Clip is one of the best micro-players around. Adding an E5 to that setup would make it that much cooler, and likely something I’d do down the road.
I’ve been looking around on head-fi.org and a few other sites, trying to find a good pair of circumaural (over the ear) headphones for under $50, but most everyone there who knows anything is the type of audiophile who thinks it hilarious that anyone should spend less than $150 on a decent pair of headphones. Not to mention that I’m a useless n00b if I won’t search through pages of threads just to find someone who had somewhat similar needs as mine, and received the same response. I like what I’ve read about those Panasonics, my only complaint is how fragile they look. I’m looking for more street/DJ styled headphones, either open or closed circumaural configurations, that sound and fit great, and are under $50, that I can use in this project.
Hey, it gets cooler than that. I’ve toyed with the idea of integrating the E5 into the housing of the Panasonic, and moulding the Mini-B connector into the outer shell. The PCB is very compact, as is the battery.
I don’t get it… don’t the bigger headphones draw more amps than earbuds, so your clip is getting slowly fried? Or is there a pre-amp?
Should I hook my clip up to my big noise cancelling headphones I got at sharper image (now bankrupt, so I probably can’t look up the electrical statistics)? It has a little aaa battery, but that is just for the noise cancel stuff.
