Therefore it still thinks it is charging and it can’t be shutdown, but only will go into standby mode and continues to draw power. It is very annoying, eventually it realizes it is disconnected (if i keep trying to turning it on and off repeateldy), but many times it will almost lose most of the battery life before it actually shuts down.
Perform a soft reset - Holding the on switch in the upmost position for 20 seconds. The Fuze should shut off. If your Fuze continues to do this. Consider formatting the Fuze and reinstalling the firmware. Format the Fuze through its settings menu. Let us know how things go. Ask questions if you need help
Push the power switch up and then hold it there for 15-20 seconds see if it shuts down. Make sure your Firmware is up to date. I have not heard of that issue before. The things I suggested are general fixes, usually these two things will yeild some results. Format only as a last resort, This sounds like an operation issue and is most likely the firmware.

I don’t have a Crystal ball, so I can’t say for sure if the Format is necessary. But I do know you can spend hours messing around with something that doesn’t work. Sometimes the best and quickest method of trouble shooting something similar to this, is to format and reload the firmware. As long as you have your music on your computer where you can reload it, this is usually the quickest and best way to get ride of gremlins out of the system.

Do what works best for you
Right. I just hate to have anybody delete all their music from their player if they dont have to. If I do a format it takes me over a week to get back to mormal so I try not to suggest it.
OKay, I found the problem and solution. The Fuze got confused after I hooked it up to the USB port on my Philips HDTV USB port. It is designed to read data from MP3 players and play the files, however once connected and disconnected, the Fuze doesn’t recognize being disconnected for some reason.
This was confirmed by formatting to fix the problem, then recreating the problem by connecting to the TV. So I just won’t connect to my TV anymore.
I too have this issue… the green battery indicator on the screen thought it was hooked up to power and it would only go into “standby” mode.
So, if I hook it up to the PC it shows as charging, when I disconnect it, it shows as not charging, I power it off, fine. When I power it on it shows that it’s charging again and will only go into standby. I can repeat this, plug in to PC and disconnect and no charging indicator till I power it off/on again.
WEIRD!
I tried: reformatting both thru PC and fuze menu, reinstalling FW 1.26 and 1.22 Its a 2GB fuze, no ext memory currently…
If I plug it into a wall charger when it’s OK it also still shows as charging when I do disconnect it. However with the PC disconnect immediately shows as not charging on the screen
