Before the Sansa went on sale, the 8 GB model was only $30 cheaper than the new 8 GB Nano Chromatics. The new Nano has better screen resolution, better sound quality, and has better accessory support. Anyway, I have a 4 GB Sansa Fuze that I got for $50 on Black Friday. It’s a Christmas Gift, so I haven’t used it yet. However, I still have a Sansa m240 from like 3+ yeard ago I guess. It takes a AAA battery and it’s annoying as hell because it caused the player to be thicker, so I can’t see why anyone would really want that. I didn’t need 8 GB of memory, I only have 1.75 GB on music on my computer anyway. I like the Sansa products anyway. I have no desire to watch videos or look at pictures on the player as it is, plus the Sansa Fuze has FM radio and and a microSD slot, which is nice. I used it at Best Buy since it was set up, conviently next to the Ipod Nano. I was able to compare them right there, and the Sansa Fuze as of the current price is a better deal for someone who just wants to listen to music and not caring about having the “cool” mp3 player.
The Fuze is cool, has way better sound than Ipod, way cheaper, and enough accessories.
I’ve only heard the Sansa Fuze once and have listened to my friend’s 4th Gen Nano many times, and the Ipod had better sound quality. Now it’s $50 cheaper instead of $30, it’s really not even that much.

You must have heard the stock Fuze earbuds, because the Fuze and Clip put out better quality sound than ANY iPod…assuming you have good earphones or are hooked up to a good stereo. My sister has a 30GB iPod and we hooked it to my stereo, and I can say, it did not compare…of course, I didn’t tell her that, in the interest of peace in the X-mas season. The only area it was better in…it was louder, but, I guess you’d say, decidedly flat sounding. I did all the comparing with EQ’s on normal, also.
Yeah, the it was the stock ear phones. However, it was also the stock Nano ear phones too. What’s a good third party ear phone I can buy, for the record? Under $20…

I prefer using a player that uses a AA or AAA battery. I hate the idea of having to constantly keep track of the power in a built in battery, and to remember to connect it to the pc to charge it when the battery is low. I hate the idea of being without music when the built in battery is out of power. I like the idea of being able to carry spare batteries for my player. Having a slightly thicker player is a small price to pay for this. One can use rechargeable AAA batteries and charge up to 4 at a time in as little as 15 minutes with a wall charger. A AAA battery based mp3 player I have is only around 12mm thick, or just around 50% thicker than my Fuze. It is smaller than the Fuze in the two other dimensions though.

You are one of the very few who would want that as it is anyway. The Fuze isn’t very thin as it is and 50% bigger would not be heavily desired. They make car chargers you know, they plug into the cigarette lighter. If you can’t remember to plug it in for a few minutes then you’ll probably forget to take some batteries around.

My old AAA battery based player is around 50% thicker than the Fuze, however in terms of overall size(volume) the Fuze is actually 1% larger than the AAA battery based player. The AAA based player is old though, and has just one gig of storage. I can keep spare AAA batteries in coat pockers, so remembering to bring spares is not a problem. I am still waiting for some nice AA or AAA battery based players to be released.
That’s never going to happen. Why can’t you buy a car charger?
“That’s never going to happen.”
Notice the great interest in the thread I started requesting AA or AAA battery based players.
Sandisk has recently released the Slotmusic player, which is powered by a AAA battery. It has no display though, and sound quality is said to be lower than that of the Fuze.
Go buy an m250 then.
The m250 has no card slot though, and sound quality lower than the Fuze. I bought a Fuze since I couldn’t find a good AA or AAA based player to buy. I am still hoping one will be released soon. I might buy a Slotmusic player since it is only $20, however I really want a premium Slotmusic player with a display and sound quality equal to the Fuze.

It really wouldn’t be a SlotMusic player, then would it? The SM player was introduced as an OPP (Opening Price Point) player marketed at people unfamiliar with, or incapable or unwilling to go through the ‘tech’ stuff in loading all their own music. They just simply buy pre-recorded Micro-SD cards to use with it, listening to 1 album at a time, similar to portable CD players.
Although the SM player can use the larger SDHC cards (even the new 16GB), without a way of determining or ‘assigning’ the play order or even a shuffle feature makes the use of such larger capacity cards inconvenient at the least.
The SM player is only $20. Hardly a ‘premium’ device. If you’re looking for a ‘premium’ player with a display and sound quality equal to that of the Fuze, then there’s the Fuze. To add any of the features you want would cost extra for the higher quality processor chip (for sound quality), and the display resulting in the player NOT being a SlotMusic player anymore. And the end cost to the consumer would probably be close to what the Fuze sells for now. Hardly an modestly-priced OPP.
You can’t make a silk purse of of a sow’s ear. Both are adequate for what they are when used in their original state, but to try and enhance one to the other will result in a completely different thing altogether.

Of course it would. My impression is that a Slotmusic player is a player that runs on a AAA battery, has a card slot, doesn’t have built in flash memory(except a tiny bit for player settings and firmware)and lacks a USB connection.
Just about all portable CD players have a display. It is a basic display though, that doesn’t display photos or video. That is what I would want on a Slotmusic player.

The Fuze doesn’t run on a AAA battery though, has built in storage and interfaces with a pc.

You still haven’t answered why you can’t just buy a car charger. If you are just a kid and don’t have a car, well you seem to spend a lot of time on here so if you have time to post on this forum you should remember to charge your Fuze. The slot music player is a piece of **bleep** and not worth it. There’s no screen and not a lot of SM out there. Also, just download your music off limewire, I don’t see why you are obsessed with wanting to over pay for SM cards which limit what music you listen to. No one wants what your asking for except for a very small population. How about you just go buy a CD player? It does everything the slot music player does. Basic screen, no usb connection, takes batteries. What is the problem?

The Slotmusic player will play whatever micro SD card you place in there, provided its files are in a supported format(mp3 or wma?). I find the lack of a display annoying though.

It doesn’t fit in my shirt pocket though. I have an mp3 CD player with AM and FM radio I bought several years ago, however it is too bulky.

Yet again, you’ve managed to avoid the main question. WHY DON’T YOU BUY A CAR CHARGER?
