I agree. The Express was a nice concept, but the Clip is a better player in every way. If you want a card slot, though, you’ll need to step over to the c200 (somewhat bigger than the Express, but has a color screen & a replacable battery.)
I have a similar issue. Trying to load up my Express 1gb. Erased everything on the player so it shows that 1gb is available. When putting on files, it only lets me put up to about 366 mb left available on it. I try and put another song that is only 5mb and it says the player is full and the operation cannot be completed. Is this an error on my side or on the Express’ side?
Would creating different playlists of 1000 songs each be a work around the 1000 song bug limit?
Then, can the player play each playlist? Or can you make a playlist of playlists?
Did anyone try the multiple playlist mentioned in the above post??? Please post if it worked
I’ve got over a thousand songs on my express and as long as you don’t try and play them all at once, they work fine. I usually play my songs in order of album or I make a playlist of maybe about fifty songs. Why would anyone want to play over a thousand songs at the same time anyway?
can you get over 1000 on there?
Well I’ve got about 1200 songs on my player all in albums, I burned from my CD collection. I have a 2GB player with a 4GB Micro SDHC card. I go into system info and it shows all 1200 files, when I look through the list every song I’ve uploaded is there and can be played. I am sure this 1000 song limit is only if you try to play 1000 songs in a playlist or if you select play all in the menu, but who would do that anyway? I mean I might be fussy but what need is there to play all the tracks on the device. Even when I do make playlists I usually only add 50 or 60 songs into it, eg, for the gym or for on the train.
so the 1000 limit is only when selecting play all? I thought it was more serious then that. I rarely use that option, personaly. Unfrotunately for the other people who do, i doubt there will ever be a solution.
I did some testing on this issue today, and have found that the Express WILL NOT play more than 1000 songs.
This is what I tried:
-
Put a combined 999 songs on my Express and MicroSDHC.
-
Turned on Express to verify that 999 songs show up when I use “Play All”.
3. I scrolled backwards to song 999 and wrote down the titles of the last 5 or so songs (the Express puts all songs in alphabetical order by title when you “Play All” ).
-
Turned off Express, and added 2 more songs to the MicroSDHC.
-
Turned on Express and checked the “System Info”. It now says “Songs: 1001”.
-
Tried “Play All”. The “Play All” list now shows 1000 songs, but it is now missing the last song in alphabetical order.
-
I looked in the “Artist” folder, and I still see that particular song listed under the correct album. However, when I try to select that song, it will not play it. (For example, if there are 3 songs in the album containing that particular song, it will only play the other 2 songs. If the song is the only song in its album, then it will say “No Song” when you try to play it.)
-
I added 3 more songs to the Express just to verify.
-
Now the “Play All” list is missing the last 4 songs in alphabetical order.
-
Again, I searched for each song individually either under “Artist” or “Songs”, and they are still there, but they just won’t play.
I did the same process again but this time putting the last 5 songs in a playlist. When I’m at 999 songs, all 5 songs show up in the playlist. But once I was at 1001 songs, the playlist only played 4 songs. Then when I increased the song count to 1004, the playlist only played 1 song. I opened up the playlist on my computer, and it still lists the 5 songs, just somehow, the Express “lost” the location of the songs or something, so it can’t play them.
So my conclusion is that the Express is limited to recognizing 1000 songs, because it can only “index” 1000 songs, so when you try to play the 1001th song, it doesn’t know where it is. It can “see” that there are more than 1000 songs, but it just can’t play them all, even if you try to put them in separate playlists. Unless someone can confirm that they were able to put more than 1000 songs on the Express, and tried to play EVERY one of them.
Also, I did this with a 2GB Express, firmware 01.01.05A2, and a 6GB SanDisk MicroSDHC card. So it could be possible that results my vary with non-SDHC cards, or different players, etc.
I am able exceed a total of 1000 songs between the internal memory and the 4gb card I have. Through a painful, time consuming process, I have discovered that the memory card is limited to 1000 songs. Any song beyond a 1000 on my memory card won’t show in the artist, album, or song view.
Any new news on an actual solution?
