Sansa Clip 01.01.18A Firmware Download

I tried the “test” version of the 1.01.01.18 binary and it added a “test” item under options. I think the only difference was the name of the file.

Maybe just adding the “E” changes the FM radio frequency band or steps. Are they different in Europe?

Just a wild guess.

Thank you Sansa! I mainly listen to 40 minute talk show mp3’s (1 hour segments with all breaks edited out). The faster “fast forward” function is greatly appreciated. With my old m240, my thumb would get tired of holding down the FF button to get 15 minutes into the file. I am very impressed with the Clip, it’s an amazing little device.

Hey all,

So, anyone compile a list of the 01.01.18A updates yet?  I am curious, as I am still on the .11 version…

Thanks,

Matt!

I really could use some help on this. We just got a new Sansa clip and we can not download any music onto it.  We have a computer that is running the Vista program…does that matter?  When I try to sync music onto it, it gives me a code error message COOD11E3.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

can you help me please?  can my daughter transfer all her iTunes onto this clip?  Thank you

I despaired a bit with my new Clip till I found this forum and read the different suggestions.  When I first plugged in the Clip to my computer (Windows XP) nothing showed up on my desktop or in Windows Explorer, and the battery charging seemed to go on forever with no visible progress on the Clip itself.  But I downloaded Windows Media Player 11, and then I could see the Sansa Clip in it and then in Windows Explorer.  (Why it would show up in Explorer only after upgrading WMP is a mystery to me.)  I downloaded the Sansa Updater, and on the third attempt, the firmware upgrade did work as described here.  (I also tried downloading the update manually, unzipping it, reformatting the Clip from Windows Explorer, and then tried to drag the m300a.bin file to the “root directory” as described in this thread, but Windows wouldn’t let me drop it on either “Sansa Clip 2GB” or “Internal Memory” underneath that, and clearly (to me at least) none of the other directories would be the root directory.  A clarification on that point would be helpful.)  So I tried the Sansa Update a couple more times till it worked (in just a couple of seconds).   Somewhere in all that the battery, which had stopped at 60%, went to 100%.  The bad news was that it was all far more time and effort than it should have been, but the good news is that I have a updated, fully charged Clip, I can drag audio files in WMP and synch, and it all plays very clearly (even with the earplugs supplied with the Clip).

Regarding the individual who’s daughter placed songs from her iTunes on to her Sansa Clip

I have to ask…

Were the songs/selections she ‘downloaded’ from her iTunes collection music that she purchased from the iTunes store, or ones that she ‘ripped’ from her own CD collection?

Chances are, if the songs were purchased through the iTunes store (i.e. protected), they Will Not Play on her Sansa Clip (or any other non-apple player for that matter) by simple placing them on the player.

What she’ll need to do is:

  • Burn the songs that she wants to place on her Sansa to Compact Disk (CD).

  • Rip them to either MP3 or WMA (keep the bit rate at 128kbs since the resulting files won’t be sonically worthy of anything higher than that)

  • Drag n’ Drop them to her Sansa.

DONE!

Once I get the latest firmware m300a.bin into downloads on explorer where do I drag and drop it to?  I cannot just drop it onto my device.  It won’t let me.

You need to load the new firmware while the Clip is connected in the MSC mode. In this mode it appears as a normal flash memory drive under My Computer so you can add files by dragging and dropping.

To force an MSC mode connection:

Turn the Clip off.
Place the power switch in the “Hold” position.
Connect it to your computer while pressing the center button on the Clip.

If you’re in MTP mode it goes in the “data” folder.

Thanks for posting the firmware here. Since the American and Europe editions are already here, I am putting the Arabic and Israel firmware editions to complete the set. I packed the Arabic and Israel firmware files together in a single archive because they are small files. This is just in case anybody wanted these editions.

I have noticed that I cannot drag and drop files to the music folder in MTP mode ever since I have upgraded to .18 firmware. It only works if I sync the device with media player. Quite annoying as drag and drop used to work in previous firmware versions.

Try to format your device using the Format option under the Settings to see if it can clean up the device but basically, firmware 17 or 18 are working the same way…and I think fw 18 is more stable, offers better features and fixes on bugs…for my player, I was able to do drag and drop and all sort of things that the older firmware does and have better features so I don’t know why yours did not…and if you like drag and drop, you can always change your player into MSC mode to make it simple.

I’m sorry for asking but I just want to make sure I’m doing everything right.  This is my first mp3 player so I don’t want to screw it up.  I downloaded the zip file but when it says save to the root file what does that mean?  Can I just take it and drag it from the folder it’s in to the player?  If anyone can explain this I would appreciate it!

Definition of: root directory

In hierarchical file systems, the starting point in the hierarchy. When the computer is first started, the root directory is the current directory. Access to directories in the hierarchy requires naming the directories that are in its path.

In DOS and Windows, the command line symbol for the root directory is a backslash (). In Unix, it is a slash (/). See path, hierarchical file system and file system.

For expample, when you click on your player to open it, and you see 2 folders. Those 2 folders are on the root directory.

Yea I tried formatting it. resetting it. Everything I could think of but I still cannot drag and drop files to the device in MTP mode and I used to be able to do that before I upgraded the firmware. The error it gives is:

Cannot copy file. The device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected.

my options in that error window is either skip, skip all, or cancel. It would be good if somebody could post older firmware versions like .15, which worked fine.

Update: Ok I have not solved my problem but now I know that nothing is wrong with the sansa clip. As usual the problem is microsoft is a tard as usual, for some reason my computer is stupid and gives me that error. very mysterious indeed. I tried the clip on my next pc and it works like normal there. **bleep** microsoft and their lame OS. I guess now I will probably need to go get some drivers somehow.

I think I read that there is someone complaining how they don’t get the FM Radio with their new firmware, I tried Europe version from here first (m300e.bin) and it was gone for me too. Then, since I had another Clip that wasn’t updated, I tried auto update and it found m300f.bin with which Radio worked just fine. Also I haven’t tested with American version.
So I suggest getting the m300f.bin for download too.

How do you get the CLIP in MTF mode to upgrade the software. I have downloaded the installer but tells me to change the mode to MTF.

no matter what, ignore the solution posted sev times a day… go ahead a keep that installer… whatever ya do dont put in msc and drop the bin file in a sticky to the root… lose sleep… ask over and over… it aint hateful to be stern

k, i didnt consider sarcasm as insulting…i also didnt consider reiterating a search tool as demeaning…i always thought sarcasm was to descriptively illustrate the obvious …maybe i should just say :: the solution is posted sev times daily;  dont use the updater; put in msc, drop the bin file in a sticky to the root; search and find–if unsuccessful, then post… sorry, i dont really see the difference…seemed harmless to me

I also purchased a Clip from France that seems to have no FM Radio capabilities. I actually bought it as a present to my wife who loves listening to the radio. I am sending it back to the vendor and ask for another Clip with radio. Paying extra for postage sending and back and forth again, it will cost more than I originally planned for the player. I just wanted to say that it sould be more clearly mentioned in the advertisements that in Europe there are stripped-down models also on sale. regards
