I have been trying to covert video in various formats for about 4 days now with limited success. The videos that did convert using SMC were AVI files that were coverted from flv. SMC recognized the files and quickly converted and are playable on the Fuze. However, nothing works currently including those original AVI files. I have tried everything on various posts all without success. If I try and add an mp4 which plays on my iTouch the SMC completely fails and I get the windows error report. If I try AVI files it initially recognizes the files. When I click convert within a few seconds I get the box which shows it was unsuccessful with no failure notes. I have tried various AVI including using WinAVI and the 224 x 176 with 20 FPS. All with the same box - unsuccessful. Even tried Rhapsody which will put the video onto the Fuze but when trying to view on the Fuze get the error message unsupported video. Despite all my time, effort and additional $$ still want to be able to get video onto the Fuze. My mystery is still to be solved.
After posting this I found the advice on video4fuze. Really wish I found this earlier - worked for both AVI as well as mp4 files - no issues. Coverted and drag and drop and plays. If you are having issues do not spend money on a converter - just download and use video4fuze.
Hi Wkcal:
How did you get your movies into mp4 format? I use DVDfab to rip my DVDs into an ipod (mp4) format since I also have an iTouch. What I had to do for the Fuze is I took what I converted into an MP4 and ran it through the SMC and then put it on the Fuze and it worked no problem. I had to run it through the SMC though. I have also used the program referenced on this site called Videos4fuze instead of the SMC program, if you search you will find it and have been converting my mp4s that way for the Fuze (so both SMC or Video4Fuze have been working to put in the right format).
Why don’t you download an eval copy of DVDfab with mobile option (dvdfab.com), you get 30 days and can try the product. When you convert a DVD to ipod format, make sure you choose 2 pass encoding in the conversion settings, that keeps the audio/video in sync. Takes longer but it’s worth it. If you like the product, you can buy it and I am sure it would be worth it if it works for you.
Good luck!
Congrats and enjoy!
