Ok. So far no one has spoken up to say their Sansa Fuze is supporting gapless playback. I guess this MP3 player is not the one to buy either.
Fuze?
I updated my Express 2GB today, and thought I’d share some of my errors and their solutions.
-
I uninstalled the old Sansa Updater (just to be safe). The uninstall said it failed (something about the Sansa Dispatch process), but it said to reboot. When the system came back up, the app was gone. There were some DLLs in \Program Files\Sandisk\Sansa Updater – I deleted the directory (again, just to be safe), then installed the new version.
-
After plugging in the Express, the update started, but seemed to take a long time. I did click the “Check for Updates” button in the Updater window that comes up after installation, and it said “No updatable Sansa product has been recognized. Plug in your device and wait for more instructions.” After I hit Cancel, the update seemed to move forward faster. Just a word of warning if it happens to you.
-
I had two issues after the update:
-
I created presets and initially used the radio. I could not push the center button to switch presets unless I shifted frequencies (|<< or >>|) first, and even then it wasn’t predictable.
-
The “Internal Memory\Music” directory was missing. I copy music to this directory instead of using WMP.
Both of those issues went away when I reformatted the internal memory (Settings - Format - Internal).
Since the update wiped out my internal memory, all I had to do is rebuild my presets.
My suggestion? After you update, check for the “Internal Memory\Music” folder. If it doesn’t exist, format the internal memory, and hopefully you won’t have any issues.
After using this firmware for about a month, I can now say that I am basically satisfied with my Sansa Express. My two biggest issues (gaps in the playback of wave files and poor shuffling) are now fixed! So now I actually have the product that I thought I was buying a year ago…
Seriously though, its good that this update was released. (Better late than never.) Maybe I’ll even buy another Sansa player some time…
Well I’ve uninstalled the old Sansa updater, and installed the new one. Yet when the update is downloaded and installing, when I get to about 50% it pauses, as another window (that looks a bit like the old updater) pops up and buggers everything up. I can’t find any remnant of the old installer so I’m a bit confused!
Also tried it on the girlfriends laptop, which has never had the player on it before. Downloaded the updater, and the same thing happened!
Any suggestions/help would be most appreciated!
Since you have the problem on two different machines, I suspect it’s related to the player.
Have you tried “resetting” it? Two possible things that may work:
Settings - Reset All
Settings - Format - Internal (the upgrade will wipe out the contents anyway)
Good luck.
Let us know if you get a solution.
Yes I did both of those suggestions! Even better tho, when I was in the gym today and turned it on, it came to life for a few seconds, then died, and refused to come back on! Dead.
Sigh.
Well I think I’ve got it working again (!) but still no joy on the updater. Very bizzare.
I just got the firmware work and here are the details (sandisk’s updater really ■■■■■!)
1st, set it to mtp mode (if it is in storage mode, find it in the device manager and uninstall all the sansa drives)
2nd, run firmware updater and it should be able to idenfiy your sansa express, now do nothing leave the download button un-touched
3rd, set it to storage mode by update the driver (device manager -> sansa -> update driver)
4th, unplug sansa express and re-plug it in
5th, press the download button, now the updater should be able to update your firmware
OK, I tried using the updater in MTP mode, as well as switching it to a USB mass storage device after checking for new firmware in MTP mode. Both times, it seems to finish downloading the firmware, but then it fails installing it. Anyone know what I can try? Is there a way I can use the recovery mode stuff with the .12 firmware instead of the .05? This is kind of annoying.
Vista 32 by the way
Edit: Success! Ok, after you get the auto updater to download the firmware update, it saves the data to your temporary folder. Mine was C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Tem~SansaPackage_11-05-2008_02-19-34
In that folder exists SansaExpressUpdater.exe. Run that with your Sansa plugged in, and you shold be golden! Make sure you back up any data.
I uploaded all the files to Rapidshare for those of you who can’t find it or get it to download the temporary files: Sansa_Express_01.01.12a.rar
Good luck!

I for some reason keep getting no updatable product found and i am on 1.01.05a
Installed update. I dont own an sd above 1 Gb, so I cant testify to any of that. What I can say is that they seem to have finally fixed the F**K**G shuffle on this thing. The animations seem more sluggish now though. It doesnt matter to me, I’m just glad shuffle works.
thats for sure! the shuffle works excellently now!:smileyvery-happy:
cept if you dont pause your song before you turn off your player it will reset and have to re-read your card from scratch taking 5 minutes or more:robotmad:
Everything still working OK! I switch between choosing Songs~Shuffle & Artists~Shuffle & Albums~Shuffle that way I have three different shuffle lists.
I put all My songs on 4GB micro and keep a Copy on another 4GB micro just in case. the 1 GB Express has an empty Music folder.I only keep Media on the 4GB micro(I figured it could use the extra space)
It would be nice if the Programers of Future SE Firmware Could include Some kind of Volume Leveling.
The “Go List” Never works for Me; How about giving us some kind of Multi Playlist creation option instead of just One “Go List” , Then give us the ability to shuffle each different Playlist. - Just a thought.
Please make the Express “Tight” so I don’t have to cross My fingers and pray it will work every time I use it! (Since I’ve owned My Express it has only crashed twice but damned If I wan’t to upload 490 songs again!)Everytime I turn it on or plug it up to charge I feel as though there’s a 50/50 chance that I’ll ever see it working again.
Back those Micro cards up folks!
Does this update improve the sample rate for the voice recorder like the latest update for the clip?
