My Sansa Fuze won't turn on, even when connected to the computer

YOU ARE MY HERO!!! lol.  (mine is 2 days old) made a horrable sound in the headphones. Then I had nothing with a fully charged battery. I did try holding all the buttons when  mine(about 10 sec) i did have to do mine for 20 sec but who cares IT WORKS AGAIN!!!

but since my firmware update I can’t get it to read on my PC. Going 2 see if that reset fixxed that and if not I will format the HD, remove all software and start over 2 c if that helps.

BTW i did that auto update, my friend had 1 for months and he did the download and add it urself with no problems. So if I can get it 2 read after i reset EVERYTHING I’ll try it that way.

lucky 4 me I have a 32gb mini card so I just use my 72 in 1 card reader 2 add music and whatnot.

and again…

YOU ROCK DUDE THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

EDIT: must of hit the wrong reply box…but i hope ur problem got worked out too.

I mean, come on I bought it 3 hours ago I can’t open it and when I plug it permanently says ‘‘Critically low (0%)’’.

Not serious.

Your “Critically Low” message is a bug with Windows 7 OS. Leave the unit plugged into the computer for several hours and don’t pay any attention to what Windows tells you about the battery level. After a few hours, unplug and see what the player says the charge level is. If it’s still lower than what should be expected, try another USB port or call SanDisk Tech Support.

“I have tried all suggestions from the forum with holding down the power button for 15 or 30 seconds, and tried to hold the power button down quickly afterwords, but nothing helps.”

The power button isn’t a button. It’s a spring loaded slider on the right side of the unit. It slides up to turn on the power.

I believe Sorkin said he has a Fuze+ which does have the power button on the top of the unit as opposed to the (original) Fuze with the spring-loaded slider switch on the side. Seems he didn’t notice there was a separate board for the Fuze+ and posted here by mistake.

I just plugged my fuze into the computer and it keeps saying  “the device you connected to the usb has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it”. I’ve tried the 15 second thing, but it still won’t turn on. when I tried to charge it a few days ago,it got really hot and wouldn’t turn on. HELP!!!

Hot is not good. I hope you weren’t trying to charge it with an iPod cord.

Hold the button up for 15 seconds to make sure it’s turned off. Then slide the button down to click into Hold position–you’ll see an orange dot.

Connect the cord to the computer. Open Windows Explorer (Computer or My Computer). Hold down the << side of the wheel and connect the cord to the Fuze. See if it’s recognized.

This happened to me.

You have to hold the switch on for 15 or 20 seconds to reset the player and then turn it on again.

It will power back up.

Hey Nic ,

i have the same exact problem like what u have on ur sansa fuze … did u have any luck to find out a way of makin it turning on??

Thanks so much. Helped me get my daughter’s up and going thought I was going to have to buy another and she has taken such good care of hers.

If the resetting (holding the switch in the on position for 15-50 seconds) method doesn’t work, someone posted another method that worked for me:

  1. Place the switch in the hold position. An orange dot will appear.

  2. Connect the unit to your computer.

Apparently it forces your computer to detect it, which revives the seemingly dead device.

I still cannot get mines to power on after holding it for about a minute. The orange dot never appears but when I connect it to my laptop it says connected. I have not been able to get this thing to power on since I took it out the pack. PLEASE HELP!!!

The orange dot is under the power switch when you click it into Hold position. It’s not on the screen.

If it shows connected then it’s doing what it is supposed to when connected. Leave it connected overnight and see if the battery charges. If the battery doesn’t charge either you have a bad cord (replaceable) or a bad internal battery connection (not replaceable).

If it’s new out of the pack, just take it back to where you bought it and exchange it for another one. You have a one-year warranty from SanDisk, which would mean sending it in–call 1-866-SANDISK–but your seller should have a 30-day warranty of its own.

Thanks man, i was also having the same problem, the player would not turn on nor would it charge nor would it plug in to comp, but just holding the power there for 15 secs did the trick

Yes. i have that problem too. :expressionless:

would this delete the songs i already have when i hold the switch to “on” 4 15 minutes. Tell me thanx.

No.

Thanks to everyone for the information. I did the 15-second hold and it turned on. Apparently I’d just let my battery die and needed to do the reset to make it start charging again. Much appreciated.

Not 15 minutes. 15-30 SECONDS.

That’s a good catch there BR . . .

But I still think the answer would be No. :stuck_out_tongue:

Thank you, thank you, thank you! Two days before Christmas is no time to have my hardware break on me. Long car rides to see the family with no music = death. Thanks again!
